Baggage allowance SFO-SYD on Qantas.

I'm flying home from SFO in 3 weeks, and the ticketing on the Friday through Qantas is UA1254 SFO-LAX then QF12 LAX-SYD, and its all on 1 PNR.
The flight on the Qantas booking shows as a UA flight, no QF flight number.
I am QF Gold and flying coach/economy.
When I fly direct LAX-SYD, (without any connections), I always bring home 3 bags at about 22kg each, which I am entitled to, but I'm just not sure about the UA flight from SFO, and having the extra bag??
Anyone have any ideas????

IMHO it should be the 3 bags at 22kgs as long as it is on a QF booking number.

Isn't it odd that you have a UA flight and a QF flight on the 'same PNR' (being separate alliances)? Wouldn't that be the umbrella Qantas booking reference, but there would be a separate, probably unstated UA PNR?

My suspicion is that UA baggage rules will apply on the UA flight and they can be found here:

I ask that as IATA resolution 302 and MSC along with the USA DOT exception come into play.

Isn't it odd that you have a UA flight and a QF flight on the 'same PNR' (being separate alliances)? Wouldn't that be the umbrella Qantas booking reference, but there would be a separate, probably unstated UA PNR? ...

It is not strange really, TA bookings often have such carrier mixes.

While its good to know the PNR(s), in these matters the ticket number is all important.

It is the return leg of a trip which was all booked through qantas. My itinerary says I'm entitled to 2 bags, but all my bookings have always said that as they do not seem to take in the FF allowance.

In that case the baggage allowance you had on the outbound is your allowance for the return.

Sadly, even though they can, most airlines, including Qantas, don't file the additional baggage allowance for elites with APTCO. As a result
what ends up on your eticket is not reflective of your actual allowance.

You will need to prove to US check in the allowance you had on the outbound

I had a SMF-LAX-BNE with a similar ticket, actual printout stated less baggage allowance but there were no problems/and no questions just a smile and thank you upon checking bags.

Serfty - is there somewhere I can look up the details you quoted?
I called QF and was told that the limit is 2 bags on the SFO-LAX leg.
It's not normally an issue, but I have some stock I want to bring back with me for my business (and yes, I do declare it!!!!!) and 2 bags will be a challenge.

When your itinerary contains travel on airlines other than Qantas, (ie flights that do not have a "QF" flight number) the following rules apply. Your specific baggage allowance will be available on the 'Review' page before you complete your booking. If you've already booked, you can find out your baggage allowance at Manage Your Booking. Or if you booked through a travel agent you may wish to contact them.
1. For travel other than from the USA and where your ultimate destination is not within the USA
Different baggage allowances may apply each time you check-in your baggage. If you check in your baggage for a multiple sector journey, the baggage policy of the most significant carrier in the itinerary will apply.
2. For travel to, from or within the USA
Under US DOT regulations, if your travel to, from or within the USA involves one or more airlines with flights that do not have a "QF" flight number, the airline whose flight number appears first on your ticket will determine whether its baggage rules or another airline's baggage rules will apply to all the flights in your itinerary. For travel between Australia and the USA, usually (but not always) Qantas' baggage rules will apply.

I reckon the agent was just reading off the ticket.

I suggest you keep all bag tags from your outbound to present at UA check-in to illustrate your elite allowance.
