Hi all

Our daughter is off on her 1 year safari this friday to South America. She is on a Qantas code share with Lan. Qantas international baggage allowance states 2 pieces with each piece not exceeding 23kg (economy pax with no status). But domestically she is only allowed one piece. As she is departing from Canberra do they waive the domestic baggage requirements because she is joining onto a international flight?

That depends on how you/she purchased the tickets. If you purchased the domestic leg CBR/SYD on the same ticket as the international than the greater baggage allowance would appy for the whole journey. However if you purchased them separate ie CBR/SYD on the internet for the cheapest price and the SYD/SCL ticket online or through a travel agent separately than no you would need to pay for the additional baggage on the domestic leg.

If booked separate your could ask travel agent to link the two PNR's.

I did this once in a similar situation and had no issues with the baggage allowance.
My travel agent was surprised that it worked out though!
