Baggage interline - separate PNRs - QF award flight on AA metal to QF award flight on QF metal

A question I have failed to get an answer to all this time, is there any way to get an award ticket and a commercial ticket on the same PNR?

All the wording from the airlines always say "just book it all on the one PNR" as if it is really easy. When to my knowledge this is impossible if trying to book an award seat when the whole journey is not available. I know QF have the policy that they will do it if they are the first carrier (however an agent at first class check in has declined me previously).

While I understand the policy for commercial reasons, award seats are very difficult to book and regularly I can only book one segment as an award seat and have to book a commercial fare for the next segment. Which lack of reward seats is hardly the pax fault.
DIY, you can book a simple return (not multi-city) ticket with QF as mix of cash and classic reward - if flights are available at the same time. In theory, that could be A->B->C and back. But all of the ABC or CBA would be on points and the other cash or v.v.

Pretty sure the QF search won’t give AB as points and BC as cash etc.

I defer to the resident TAs to comment on how some do get to link bookings and what that means in practical terms.

Yes you can, but it requires a very good travel agent and even then it may not be available in all instances.
