Bali direct full service from Brisbabe - Malindo Air

First time poster so hopefully I'm doing it right.

Malindo Air has launched direct flights to Bali from Brisbane and onto Kuala Lumpur with 30kg baggage, entertainment and food included!

I have just booked tickets to Bali directly on their website $725 for 2 people during the Easter long weekend. I've been looking for last minute flights to Bali during the Easter break, but prices are extremely high with all other carriers until I stumbled across this deal!!

It is slightly cheaper with bestjet.com at $349pp. There is no promotion link or info on their website/Facebook and there is only 1 flight per day at the moment. From the fare rules I read prior to paying there are NO BLACKOUT PERIODS!

BNE - DPS : 7:15am
DPS - BNE : 10pm

I have attempted to google the launch, but pretty much no info apart from some articles back in January regarding preparation to launch.

Plenty available, be quick and happy hunting :)
 
Welcome aboard lly, it would be nice if you could take some on board photos - and post them, and your experience of Malindo Air when you get back.
 
I flew Malindo recently (in Jan 2017) between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. While it was a short flight, was very impressed. Received some cake, entertainment was on and the plane was brand new. Definitely will fly them again.
 
as a Lion Air subsidiary they're firmly on the no-fly list...

Off the top of my head I would fly Scoot, SQ, Thai, Garuda, Vietnam Airlines (only flew once domestic), JAL, ANA, CX, as Asian carriers. MH short haul, and happy flying JQ=3K. And even less of these long haul.

After listening to a you tube clip regarding pilots and aircraft maintenance in Asia - I'm out!

Pity though as good bargains are always tempting.

Although putting aside shared ownership with possible shared procedures, this incident was down to pilot error - the problem was not who the plane was delivered to but who was flying it.

Also of note that Malindo (was?) a JV between Lion Air and a Malaysian company and FWIW operates under Malaysian air operator certificate - not Indonesian one . Whether this makes a functional difference to its safety I am not sure - but from memory the airlines under Malaysian regulators haven't been effectively banned by the EU - whereas those under Indonesian regulators have (although Lion Air Indonesia has now gained itself an exemption from that ban).
 
This is great news! The flight also continues onto Kuala Lumpur. If they decide to have a promo sale, I may just book a BNE-KUL flight in June. So far it's still only showing the expensive Flexi fare for BNE-KUL around the dates I'm looking at, though.

I'm not sure how I feel about spending that amount of time on a 737, but as a one-off I'm prepared to try it. Thankfully BNE-KUL is a day flight, too.

I just booked this for my family of 4 to KL departing the week before easter for a week in KL.

All points above are valid concerns.

From what I found online, Malindo has its M&E done in Malaysia under Malaysian law, and just received their IOSA audit certification in February from IATA.

The 737's look new and supposedly have an average age of ~2 years.

Lion are the junior parter in the JV which is why it's all done in Malaysia.

What difference any of this actually makes who knows.

Correct. Newish 737-900 fleet. All seats with IFE and decent pitch - 32" for Malindo/Batik versus 29" for Lion.

I think they are junior partner only in the same way that QF is junior partner in Jetstar Asia (Singapore)
 
I ended up booking a Malindo Air flight from BNE to KUL in July.

When I log in to manage the booking, I'm not given any option to select a seat. Is anybody else having trouble with this? Any ideas? I just don't want to be stuck in a middle seat on a 737 for 10 hours and 30 minutes!

Wouldn't this make you question the company's pilot recruitment and training processes?

It would. But one fact is that Malindo is regulated in Malaysia and not Indonesia. Historically that would be a positive, however given the current state of the Malaysian government I am not entirely sure that they're much better right now.

Thanks, this worked.

For future reference, the charge was $19 for a standard seat or $30 for a seat in rows 4 and 5, which the lady said have extra legroom. Apparently you can't choose an exit row seat until you check-in at the airport.
