BALI volcano ash and cancellation of flights discussion

Has the threat from Mt Agung substantially receded or does the situation remain almost totally unpredictable?

There doesn't seem to be anything in the media in the last few days.
It was peaking a little yesterday. It seems to gain pressure, find release then subsides then builds pressure again. It is totally unpredictable. People who booked before the recent events cannot cancel yet and claim on insurance because nothing has actually happened. People who are booking in the future can’t get travel insurance for the volcano because it is now a known event. Which means that Bali will be getting hammered as no one in their right mind would make a booking now. It’s all a bit screwed for them.

there has been no change in the status "The evaluation of observational data indicates that volcanic activity at Mt. Agung remains at a high level. It is still more likely than not that an eruption will result from current activity"

If you are interested in being updated ignore the media, keep an eye on this page

Any new updates on Agung will be coming from that source. the most recent press release is easy to follow - its in english

Jetstar has removed the travel alert from their site.
Interesting. The Indo Govt is stuck right now having evacuated so many people. Of course they don’t want a disaster but the conditions in the camps are appalling. Running out of food. Hygeine, schooling etc. People probably won’t book for next year until warnings cease but the experts don’t know. Science has its bitter sweet existence.

Commencing 17/10/17, Virgin will resume non stop flights to DPS with the tech stop in DRW to cease.

thats good news. I havent seen a source for that yet, but we shall know by this afternoon/evening. I am flying out soon.
Perhaps Virgin has now realised that "imminent" means anytime between now and years away :) and that it was already costing them a bucket of coin refueling in Darwin 'just in case' of a mid flight eruption.
