Just gotten back from the new Hilton Sukhimvit. Nice property overall. Not overly expensive and close to the sky train (taxi drivers don't seem to know where it is, and I speak Thai so it wasn't just a ploy to rip me off!).
I'd recommend it personally at the ~$150pn I paid.
I think your choice needs to be connected to your reason for visiting.
Do you need access to the sky train or the underground?
Are you there for shopping or business?
Know it well and I've only ever had to tell the taxi driver 'Sukhumvit Soi 24' to be safely delivered there.
Also it backs onto the Sukhumvit DoubleTree (Soi 26) which means it is good for mattress runs if required.
Looked at rates for 2 weeks time and this hotel is ~4,000 baht and Holiday Inn Sukhumvit is ~2,800 baht including executive lounge access as Platinum. My goto hotel in Bangkok.

I think both hotels are quite good but the Hilton a little pricey for whatever reason.

Saw the rates while I was booking hotels in Bangkok for stay in 3 weeks. The Intercontinental was >AUD250/night not including breakfast. Was at the Intercontinental last month. Location was convenient for skytrain and shopping. It was on points so didn't check price.
