I've often stayed at Novotel Ploenchit with its good location but am wondering if Sofitel So in Lumpini area is a better choice. 2 night stay. Any thoughts?

Don't know much about the hotels you mention but in terms of area I would rather stay in Ploenchit or Chit Lom as opposed to Lumpini. Found those areas with better shopping and entertainment.

Location, Location, Location!

I agree and I feel at home between Siam and Sukhumvit areas.

About to confirm booking.

I think your choice needs to be connected to your reason for visiting.

Do you need access to the sky train or the underground?

Are you there for shopping or business?

I'm trying Shangri La next month. Anyone got experiences with this property?

Just gotten back from the new Hilton Sukhimvit. Nice property overall. Not overly expensive and close to the sky train (taxi drivers don't seem to know where it is, and I speak Thai so it wasn't just a ploy to rip me off!).

I'd recommend it personally at the ~$150pn I paid.

Know it well and I've only ever had to tell the taxi driver 'Sukhumvit Soi 24' to be safely delivered there.

Also it backs onto the Sukhumvit DoubleTree (Soi 26) which means it is good for mattress runs if required.

I like the proximity to BTS.

Visit for both business and leisure.

My goto hotel in Bangkok.

Looked at rates for 2 weeks time and this hotel is ~4,000 baht and Holiday Inn Sukhumvit is ~2,800 baht including executive lounge access as Platinum.

I think both hotels are quite good but the Hilton a little pricey for whatever reason.

In that case not worth it, HI is decent as well.

I normally book DT on points+pay - good value that way.

Sofitel So is leaps and bounds ahead of the Novotel. Look at what you want location wise first. I am fond of Pullman King Power, Conrad and the Indigo is my new go to place, already have 4 stays booked there for this year.

Was at the Intercontinental last month. Location was convenient for skytrain and shopping. It was on points so didn't check price.

Saw the rates while I was booking hotels in Bangkok for stay in 3 weeks. The Intercontinental was >AUD250/night not including breakfast.

Thanks for the price point JohnK. As it was a reward booking I didn't even look. As it was we got breakfast included and an upgrade so pretty happy.Though the hotel was very good.
