Need to get back from Bangkok to Adelaide in July and was wondering what is the best option?

I can not seem to find an airline that does a direct service BKK > ADL so I will need to do a one stop along the way.

Any suggestions as to the best route? Would it be better to do two bookings?

Regards,

JQ or QF via MEL or the normal options ex SIN ???

Definitely no direct service BKK-ADL.

You could try as Markis suggested or a couple of other options would be SQ BKK-SIN-ADL or MH BKK-KUL-ADL.

Thanks Markis,

I am looking at possible a AirAsia BKK>SIN and then a QF SIN>ADL but it would be on two seperate bookings. Is it possible to arrange for the bags to be checked all the way through to ADL when I check in at BKK and transit lounge in SIN rather than having to clear customs, immigration and re check in in SIN?

Not sure how the inter airlines things work.

The answer to your baggage interline will most probably be no.

Air Asia offers a connecting service on MEL-KUL-BKK and vv. (According to their booking engine).

If you can get a fare from ADL-MEL you'd be all set without parting with too much coin ;)

AirAsia - FLY-THRU Introduction

Problem is connecting, if you have a mis-connect that low coin fare is lost and a high coin one takes it place, negating the savings made, especially on the MEL-ADL leg, not to mention its three hops! I would probably grab an el cheapo to SIN and then grab a full service ex SIN direct if it was me.

Malaysian might be a better option if just looking for a one way flight and full service. Their fare structure tends to price one ways similar to LCCs (ie oneways are usually available for half the price of returns) and getting through fare from Bangkok eliminates baggage collection/rebooking and flight connection risks.

If you want minimal hassle with baggage & transfers then the MH flight (BKK-KUL-ADL) is the easiest as once you have checked in at BKK you don't need to touch your bags until just before you clear customs in ADL.

Otherwise BKK-SYD-ADL with QF is not too bad, but once you land in SYD you need to collect your bags, clear customs, take your bags to the transfer counter and check them in, clear security, take the transfer bus over to the domestic terminal for the ADL flight, then pick your bags up again at the other end.

I know which one I prefer...... :D

I fly route this quite regularly (BKK-SYD-ADL vv.), and always try to get QF81 SYD-ADL in the inbound leg as you then clear customs in ADL, *not* SYD (which is a real pain.)

Add to that, access to the J lounge whilst waiting for your connection - a rather nice way to arrive in ADL.

And there's also BKK-HKG-ADL on CX which believe it or not is shorter (by 85 miles) than travelling via SYD.

And a rather nice flight too - although more expensive and connection for ADL-HKG-BKK is a next day service. But if you wanted to spend some time in HKG, a nice flight on a great carrier.
