This seams like a great value rewards card. 2 points per dollar spend with the option of a $1000 flight center gift card for 182k points. For someone that flies economy this is good value, (better than citibank take flight or QF Any seat reward). At the moment I can get a flight on emirates return to Singapore for $702 (from MEL). This would cost 127400 points ($63700 in credit card spend on bankwest). Plus you are paying all taxes, get FF points for the flight and status credits. ON QF classic the same flight would be 60,000 points ($60,000 CC spend assuming 1:1) yet you dont get FF points , need to pay taxes and no status. Furthermore you still might not be able to get flight on dates wanted.

Has anyone had experience with this card?

pretty lousy conversion rate for say coles or woolworths $100 gift card

bankwest - 22150

QFF - 11500 for Wollworths on special, usually 14500

Velocity - 14400 Coles or 14500 Woolworths

Keep in mind that the earn rate is 2 points per dollar for the Platinum, or 1.5 points per dollar for the Gold or Classic. With 30,000 points sign-up bonus for the Platinum as well at the moment it's not too shabby for those that have no interest in a Frequent Flyer program anyway.

Looks like a decent earn rate. I'm not sure the comparison with say Qantas is as simple as you make out. One point is that 1:1 isn't a representative earn rate. There are plenty of platinum cards out there that earn 1.5:1 with say the AMEX on dual card accounts. Sure AMEX isn't as widely accepted but it is accepted enough for that difference to be relevant. Qantas direct earn cards can also earn upto 2.5:1

really it is a matter of choosing a card that matches you spending patterns and needs.

Ohh and that qantas classic award could also be had as an any seat award for the same point cost with a cash co-payment and would earn points on the flight.
