Hi all

I am flying out from Barcelona to Syd. The flight leaves BCN at 9.

I am in Madrid the day before and coming down to Barcelona. Because it’s an early departure getting out from the BCN city centre to the airport might be a pain. Have people stayed near BCN airport? I am flexible about what time I get in. I was thinking to take the train down to BCN from MAD but I am not fixed on a time.

I have 23hr stop in Singapore. Annoying but that’s all I could get. I was going to get a hotel in the city centre (Hyatt). Or should I just stay around the airport? It’s pretty much a full day so I figured city centre was ok although with a 7am take off it’s going to be an early one out of the hotel.

A hotel at the airport might be better given your 7am departure. I guess that means you arrive abt 6am; you should at least be able to drop your bags off if the room isn't available then

Singapore has an excellent metro system, including to/from the airport of course, so no question - get out and about. Trip reports on Singapore here.

There are also city tours available for transit passengers to and from the airport, but with your length of time there, self touring might be a better option for you.

Thanks Roo Flyer.

If anyone has any experiences staying in and around BCN airport it would be appreciated. As in where would I eat in the locale?

As for Singapore, yep, I am happy to potter around a bit and walk around and just find my way. I’ve asked if the Hyatt will give me an early check in given the early check out. If they do I might stay the night there. Trying to get one more rung up from explorist in WOH.

We didn't stay near the airport in Barcelona. We caught a metro from our Airbnb & then the airport bus. Looking at the timetables the metro is going to be available to you & the airport buses start at 5am & run every 10 minutes. The bus service was excellent & I would have no hesitation in recommending that as a way of getting to the airport in time for a 9am flight.

I'd be heading in to the city. Leaving your hotel at 430am should give you ample time to complete formalities before your flight. Much more interesting choice of food and activities in town.

Definitely worth heading out of the airport and into Singapore, both to stay and do some sight seeing. Plenty of hotels at all prices and it is quick and cheap to get into the city and back to the airport.

No point staying near Barcelona Airport. Go into town, have a nice dinner there.

Getting from the city to Barcelona Airport for a 9 am flight won't be an issue at all via taxi. Should take no longer than 20minutes (a taxi once got me there in what it seemed like 10minutes arriving at 0600).

Aerobus wise, it may be cheaper, starts at 0500 and takes around 30minutes from Placa Catalunya. I wouldn't bother with the aerobus unless your hotel is within walking distance of Placa Catalunya or Placa Espana.

For a 7am flight, departing on SQ, could comfortably leave hotel later than that (as late as 0530) not much traffic at that hour and be happily inside immigration an hour before the flight. Especially if organised enought to through check from BCN - i.e. to just carry some hand luggage for the layover.

Thanks all for the replies.

Decided to stay the night in BCN and come in from Madrid a bit earlier to have a bit longer in town.

Also will stay in Singapore centre. It is a 23 hour layover so they should check my bag through and that’s what I will do - I will pack some shorts and a shirt for the bag (no meed for shorts now).

If anyone is in madrid I can recommend the new Hyatt in Madrid. Been opened about 15 days. Great location. I got upgraded (don’t think there are many guests as I am just a explorist) into a room over looking gran via with a balcony! Lovely.
