Good crew methinks. BTW. It's ALH. Not ANH. Thanks for organising, we are Looking forward to it. ( it's the only way I can pin QFWP down for catch up)
G’day all,
I was in Adelaide a couple of weeks ago the week after Easter for a conference and stayed at the Intercontinental which is right next door to the Adelaide Convention Centre. The Adelaide Oval is behind the hotel connected by a footbridge across the Torrens. I attended the Geelong Port Adelaide game and gotta say that it’s a really nice oval, I was overlooking the Bradman and Chappell stands. However a warning. The Port fans are VERY parochial! (yes even worse than Pies fans). I stayed on the Executive floor of the Intercontinental which gives access to the Club Lounge and all its benefits. The hotel across the road, the Sebel Playford, looks very nice also with olde world charm.
The pre-conference symposium was held at Maggie Beer’s Farm (worth a visit if in the area) where you can taste her produce etc. If you’re after a restaurant on Saturday night, one street across in Hindley Street (a bit dodgey in parts but OK) and walking distance of the Intercontinental, I recommend a restaurant called The Apothecary 1878. Itself a quirky restaurant but with good food and coughtail bar and its wine list has won the wine list of the year award numerous times. I was also recommended a restaurant in North Adelaide which I didn’t get time to visit called the Ruby Red Flamingo.
Sounds like you guys are going to have a good time. Apologies if I’ve rambled too long.
We have tried Ruby Red Flamingo. It's quite nice - but extremely busy on a Saturday night. The Port supporters - depends where you sit. Avoid the Outer - the stadium seats are nice and we found the Port supporters to be nicer than the Crows fans (I am sort of one of them) as they get a little nasty when the crows are losing They are not happy campers at the moment.
We've booked the Intercontinental at this stage even though we are locals.
Maggie Beer's farm is excellent. Her salted caramel brandy sauce is to die for.
We will grab some "Beyond India" curry at the football. They have a mobile stand at the back ovals. Their restaurant is on O'Connell Street North Adelaide. About 5 minutes by taxi.

Don't be so selfish!
Or are you making way for me?
Perhaps we could rent a car and just tag along behind, like poor relations?
