I don't know if it happened when you were there, but we were watching a German (Subtitled) Travel programme the other day. They visited this bookshop earlier this year and had to pay a 3 Euro entrance fee which was 'refunded' if you bought something. With the crowds and being a commercial operation it does seem a reasonable regime.Livraria Lello in Porto-visited in 2014- not the best photos ever taken!
