Personally I prefer to drink my beer directly from the bottle. If I order a Crown Lager in Cairns or Sydney QC, that is fine to do. However, in Brisbane, they must pour it into a glass because it is "the rules". When asked why you must drink your beer from a glass, the staff do not know. So, does anyone know why in Brisbane QC you must drink your beer from a glass and why it is not consistant throughout Australia?

Last time I asked about this in the SYD J lounge they also had to pour it into a glass but said it was OK from the bottle in the QP.

Must be a better class of people in the SYD J lounge and in the BNE QP.

To stop people bring a couple of bottle tops along so they can have a "traveller" for the trip home?

That at least sounds more reasonable than "because it is the rules". I guess you would have to be pretty desperate to take one as a roadie!

Those people exist. I've heard of people who have a well stocked esky in the boot of their car for when they come off shift at 6am.

The MEL QP staff pour the beer into a glass every time. I've never asked why, it just adds more time between me asking for the beer and me drinking it!

I haven't had one in the MEL J lounge yet; if I'm there I drink the spirits that aren't available in the QP (last time I was there it was 6am and the bar was closed) :(

The HBA QP bar is self serve and I routinely drink beer from the bottle.

Can't remember what the ADL QP does, but it's not self serve.

Most, if not all, Int J lounges I've been to from memory are self serve and you help yourself to a bottle (or can) depending on your preference.

To answer your question though - it must be a state by state decision; I don't know if different hospitality companies run individual QPs? It could also explain why the same food isn't always available at all the QPs, but each QP if you go there enough times in a short space of time, will have the same food every day. I don't know - all I do know is that the beer is good and I will keep drinking it!

Can't be state legislation as Cairns and Brisbane are different. It might be different companies though?

Bottle or Glass in the MEL J lounge

Mildly interesting event in the MEL J lounge today - I was asked if I wanted a bottle or glass for my beer - I opted for bottle as it is one less item to wash...

I haven't been offered a bottle in the QP/J lounge in a long time - is this a change in policy?

Slightly OT, what spirits do they have in the J lounge that they don't in the QP?

I noticed recently but didn't think that anyone else would have picked up on it.

SYD T3
QC - beer in bottle - ok
J Lounge, beer in bottle - not ok.

Can't remember the last time I enjoyed a Crown Lager.....might have been mid 80's when I came of age & started to earn sufficient coin to be able to afford to drink CL.

Since then the CL has dropped off my radar......like 80's fashion - it's had it's day;)

from my memory i have had beers only in bottles in QP' and J lounge but once the girl put it in a glass and next time I went up and asked for a beer and I asked for it in the stubby.

It was fashioned for visiting dignitaries from 1919!!!

I don't understand it. Local pubs in town here have taken up serving drinks on plastic cups. I once tried to avoid this by ordering a bottled beer, only to have it poured into the same plastic cup also. It seems to take a lot of the enjoyment away by having a drink out of a plastic cup.

Not sure of the entire list, but Bailey's is the one I am certain of...

The individual contracting hospitality company might have more to do with the state "rules"; I'm guessing some companies may operate more than one because once I did SYD-MEL-HBA and exactly the same food was in the SYD and MEL QPs that evening.

Virgin Lounge serve all their beers in stubbies, glasses
available on request. Prefer drinking from the stubbie also.
