Beijing Capital Airlines to fly to MEL

Interesting seeing how they currently seem to have only 2 a332s at the moment with one a333 to be delivered according to Wikipedia

BCA is part of the Hainan Airlines group, so maybe they'll get a plane off of them to help out. The paint job looks pretty much the same anyway.

More interesting is the expansion of the number of cities in China that one can fly to from Australia. They've even found one north of Beijing, even if it is only a tag flight.

While it may gradually change, most of the expansion of flights ex and to mainland Chinese cities seems to be to SYD rather than to MEL. At last count if I recall there were six mainland Chinese carriers flying to Sydney (Australia).

Will be interesting to see if there's going to be any VA codeshares.

MEL is connected to 8 Mainland cities whilst SYD is connected to 11 cities cities, not including the ones to be confirmed. To put it into perspective, BNE is only connected to 2 cities, CNS is connected to 2 seasonally and PER and OOL is only connected to 1 city. MEL and SYD are definitely dominating the Australia - Mainland China market by the sheer size of destinations, the number of flights and airlines.

Even the Chinese airlines are ignoring ADL?

Well CX flies to ADL directly. People can transit at HKG to most Chinese cities anyway via Ka.
Just going off list above.

And I think most people, myself included, don't consider CX a Chinese airline. I would include Eva air in the same statement.
