Best A380 seats for a giant

I'm 6' and go for 33A/K over row 32.

If one of 80A/K, 48A, 66A/K, 48A or 71D (in that order) are available I'd grab it.

I have had 71D several times, and great for me (186cm) but brought complaints from SWMBO in 71E. So I would only recommend this if travelling alone, but it is a great seat for legroom.

Do these extra legroom seats become free at some point for Gold passengers? Or do you have to pay to select them, even at check-in?

Even at check-in you'll have to pay for them.
Bugger. Have put in a points upgrade request but not sure if I should cough up the $90 now just in case the request is unsuccessful later.

Thanks for all the replies. If I ring Qantas with flight numbers prior to booking will they be able to advise if certain seats are available still? That way, I can change dates if need be.

The AK seats still get the window locker and AB/JK have no-one behind due to the take-off/landing crew seats. So there's no problem reclining your own seat when you like and there's no-one hitting, kicking the back of it either.

The best features of row 33, IMO.

According to expert flyer 80A and 80K are both available for the return leg which is great. Flight over a slight issue as I'd most likely be on the 747-400...and according to Expert Flyer all the exit row seats (plus a heap more) have been blocked off (not occupied) by Qantas....not sure why.

Maybe I should just suck it up and catch the 6:50am out of Adelaide in order to get the A380 out of Melbourne...as compared to 9:15am out of Adelaide for the 747-400.

That's are these exit seats showing as white crosses on blue rectangle/square or solid blu rectangle.

With E/F rendering of seat maps for Qantas, the former means blocked but not allocated, the latter means allocated.

Avoid the A/K exit seats in economy on Qf 744's - at your stated height, the cowling would certainly get in your way.

They are white crosses. Lots of seats actually- I'd say half the plane blocked/white crossed. Less than 10 seats actually allocated in economy. Why would they block so many seats

That's how exit rows look on E/F ... go to www.qantas.com/yourbooking and you can select from them ... at a cost ...

As for the other seats being blocked ... thats varies with how Qantas perceive one's status.

What's the deal with 48A? Much protrusion to worry about? It's only $30 to choose that for Melb-LAX compared to $180 for 80A. I'm thinking I could manage with 48A and then pay the $180 for 80A on the return leg home for extra comfort/sleep. Won't be sleeping much on the wy over anyway I reckon.

I agree. In 33AB/JK you can stretch out and knees don't get squashed although the seat in front does recline quite a way!
That's my main worry; currently tossing up between row 32 or 33...

I frequently hear negative opinions about tall people and bulkheads. I'm 6'6" and I'd say most really tall people value knee room more than leg room. Of course both is even better.

Loved it when the 380's first arrived.

Used to to connect to them at SIN from PER and just book 80A & 80K when Qantas were not charging for those seats and no one realised how good they were (6' 5" tall).

Used to get excellent sleep without my feet being stepped on for no extra cost.

Still use them and pay no the PER link up is via DXB for DXB-LHR.

With Emirates now doing a 380 as well as a 777 from PER and blocking out emergency exits & their equivalent 80 A & K (I think their's are row 79), I just turn up 3 hrs before the flight and grovel for extra leg room.

Usually get emergency exit or their 79 A or K. Been about 95% success rate on about 20 trips :)
