Best Accor hotel in Melbourne cbd?

Any recommendations for Melbourne cbd for a 1 night business trip? Currently eyeing off the Pullman on swanston. The Sofitel on Collins is $200 more, so out of budget

Ideally would like a full gym with a squat rack but it seems that no Accor hotels in Melbourne offer this. The Sofitel Wentworth and Hilton in Sydney gets around this by having a commercial gym in their building - so if there are any Accor properties in Melbourne where the gym is actually a third party commercial gym please let me know!

This one is 8 min walk so prob best bet.
AFAIK no gyms inside accor properties Melb CBD

Haven’t stayed here but gets good reviews. Probably not a “full” gym but I was staying at the Holiday Inn Express nearby and could see down to the gym area. It looked pretty big!

When I can, I stay at the DoubleTree. The Flinders St Fitness First is literally next door.

Pullman on Swanson is very average - location is good but rooms are small and quite dingy. It feels a bit like a rabbit warren TBH. I wouldn't be keen to stay there again after a short stay in November.

Do fitness first do casual passes?

I have a decent home gym, and pretty sick of getting hassled to join after doing 7 day trials when I’m away. Would rather just pay $30 a visit

Yes. Not sure how much and whether it’s the same for all gyms or varies. But just call the closest one to where you stay.

Flinders St is very good - better than my local! A friend likes Melbourne Central.

If you have a FF “pass” membership you can use any equivalent gym in Oz. My local is a “Platinum”, so that pretty much covers most except a couple of “Titanium” ones.

There’s also an option to use gyms OS. Never bothered.

Generally stay at Mantra on Russell (normally c.$200 per night).
Nothing super flash but its clean and very convenient for dinner options.

Planning on visiting Melbourne in January with my partner and burning through 4 count 'em 4 suite night upgrades (SNUs) in the process. What would you reckon is the best hotel to stay at in this case? Mövenpick?

Mövenpick suites are nothing to write home about - absolutely massive room, with a partitioned off living area with a couch. Bathroom big too with a nice bath.

I’d be leaning towards Sofitel or Pullman on the park.

Using my Stay free night at the Sofitel later this year as a staycation as we don't have time to travel to anywhere more exotic than Collins St! This will be our second stay at the Sofitel - really enjoyed the first. Friendly service, good rooms and most of all amazing views from the exec lounge.

Fair enough.

However, when I check the dates I want to travel (Jan 5 - 9), the rates for the Sofitel are eye-watering:

Pullman Melbourne on the Park isn't bad but the savings aren't huge ($540 over 4 nights so $135/night in savings):

I see both hotels have an Executive Lounge which is a plus although the Movenpick from what I recall might have a better breakfast (it's a-la carte, or at least the one in Hobart was).

One other point, I'm open to travelling elsewhere in APAC provided the rates are good and the upgrade is a real upgrade. For instance, I see Brisbane has a Sofitel and Pullman below the $1000 for 4 nights mark.

Movenpick brekkie is back to buffet. That time of year is always on the expensive side in Melbourne, as you'll have the Australian Open starting early-to-mid Jan.

Update on the update here: Accor is running a promotion where you get 25% off stays at Sofitel locations (+10% more thanks to Accor+) around the globe and so I decided to check the Sofitel Melbourne and sure enough if it's now in the price range:

This combined with 8.5% cashback from Shopback makes this a no-brainer for booking as it makes excellent use of my earned SNUs (generating about $250/night in savings). In addition, the flexible rate means I can always cancel if I change my mind and maybe just maybe this hotel will accept the $200 in Accor gift cards that are burning a hole in my pocket.

I take it as a valued Accor+Platinum member my partner and I will have access to the executive lounge and breakfast? If so, is the breakfast served in the lounge or the restaurant? The last luxury hotel I stayed at (Pullman Auckland) had an Executive Lounge with breakfast served in the restaurant.

Good rate for the Sofitel, that’s a no brainer.

I’m going to give the Pullman on swanston a go next trip. Not as good as the Sofitel, but it appears to have a recently renovated gym with a full squat rack

Breakfast is in the lounge. There is a small buffet and a menu to order off.
Do you know if they offer the option of having breakfast in the restaurant? I asked at Sofitel Wentworth a few months ago and they didn't have any issue with it.
