Best Accor Hotel in Sydney CBD?

Anyone tried the Porter House Hotel or the swissotel with ALL?
We stayed at the Porter House on the weekend and loved it.
We used a suite night upgrade and actually preferred it over the Prestige suite at the Sofitel that we started out trip out at.
Differences obviously being the view and the lounge at Sofitel, but the Porter House was significantly cheaper.
It's going to be our go to moving forward.

Plenty of Swissotel experiences in the elite treatment thread.

Porter House is quite new so there's limited data, but you may struggle to use the Accor Plus dining benefit here.

  • PHH is a very well put together classic hotel, everything just seems to work perhaps because it is new! Non-Accor comparison would be Kimpton Margot Sydney but Porter House is much smaller.
  • Rooms are all built as "smart rooms", iPad controls curtains, lights etc
  • My stay last year was super easy and straightforward
  • Stayed as ALL Gold, definitely was offered some recognition of status but can't remember exactly

Looking forward to the Swissotel Sydney using my free night. Heard it's mostly positive experiences everywhere.

Hi all,

looking to use a stay plus in the city during a sat in school holidays, looks like Sofitel Darling harbour is not available so keen to hear what is the next best with only Silver status. We do have a free breakfast for 2 coupon which we can use for breakfast.

Have you considered the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth? I stayed there back when Accor was selling rooms at $200 AUD/night and liked it quite a bit as a Platinum. Crucially, the hotel late last year completed a major renovation so your experience could be quite good.

One point about the Sofitels, they are a nice hotel to stay at, but the experience is elevated considerably if you hold Platinum status as you'd have access to the Executive Lounge (an experience on its own with dedicated check-in and check-out areas meaning you don't rub shoulders with the commoners on the ground floor). You also tend to get a nice room too.

Other thing to consider is looking at what the Accor+ rates are. I've stayed at a number of Accor CBD properties where the Accor+ rate was hovering around $120/night (one recommendation I can recommend is the Hotel Morris - it's a boutique hotel but the breakfast was a nice a-la carte set up none of this buffet nonsense). Best of all, you can get cash back at Accor with the current offer I'm seeing being 6.5% back on bookings. One more point, and I know some will poke fun at me for saying this, but have you thought about the ibis Sydney Darling Harbour? It's located right beside the Sofitel, tends to have rates in the $100 range (sometimes less) and has a better view of the harbour as there is less construction blocking the way.

thanks for the above, this will be a staycation and only looking for the 1 stay plus night. unfortunately, no status but would consider paying an additional amount for room with lounge access but would depend how cost. we will certainly find some things to do in the city anyway.

probably looking for a nice room, view a def plus but not everything and good breakfast we can use her coupons on.

i'll look into the Sofitel Wentworth,

Maybe look into the Swissotel. Stayed there once in a suite so I can't comment on what the regular rooms are like. Good location though. I wouldn't pay much more for lounge access there though. Save your money and go out somewhere else would be my advice.

You might find your options are very limited if you want to use a Stay + on short notice. Depends too if it is for a couple or with kids?
Hotel Morris or Porter House are both good for an adults’ night in the city, not so much for families. A better family option might be Sebel Quay West, 1 br apartment and make sure you have a renovated room with view.

thanks, not looking these holidays would be winter or Spring and just for the Wife and me, will organise sleepovers for the kids.

In that case suggest:
Sofitel DH
Sofitel Wentworth
Hotel Morris (but get one of the top 2 room types.)
Each would give you good value for the breakfast voucher, plus good options if you get 2 drinks vouchers.
