We went with an annual multitrip with NIB because it has COVID cover. It’s not high ($2k, I think, for delays) but it hit the right balance of cost/cover for our needs. Will find out how easy is to claim next week when we return from the US as it turns out to have been very necessary.

Just adding it here as an option. Smart traveller has made a Choice list available too of policies that cover COVID. I just dug through that for which were offering annual multi trip.

This may not apply to annual travel insurance policies but thought I would add this data point. I've got a trip planned to the US at the end of the year and will be going skiing (so snow sport cover required). I was having a chat with my travel agent and asked about travel insurance. She said that she had been hearing reports that paying for travel insurance significantly in advance was resulting in higher pricing. If this is true, then it may be worthwhile checking and rechecking pricing but obviously need to buy before the 21 day point for COVID coverage as mentioned up thread.

Wife & I planning trip to Canada/USA including Alaskan cruise in May 2023 & have just started looking at TI's, I'm over 65 (just) with minor health issue under meditation & have been surprised with the vast differences in pricing & confusing PDS's in particular with Covid & pre existing conditions. At the moment NIB seems to have best coverage/price., still awaiting quotes from other TI's..

This is something I've been looking for post Covid. Needing motorcycle coverage (over 250cc) used to be the factor for me between 1cover & TID.
Was going to rely on Amex explorer CC travel insurance but there is a few holes in this for me.
I did find this which had a different underwriting company behind which the restrictions on this were fantastic.
And being a RACQ member gave 20% saving. It was reasonable before this discount.
How does this fare from AFF scrutiny?
Under 65, 30 days or less travel, world wide coverage is what I was aiming for.

Just looked up the RACQ policy and they don't want us oldies. 3 times our current policy when you go cruising.

@drron did you end up going with Seniors Travel - were you comfortable with the covid cover they had?

Previously I have just bought a single trip policy. But with a couple of trips in the next 12 months I have been thinking of an annual policy. I will investigate some of your suggestions. Thank you

Is there such thing as add on ski insurance cover if I’ve already got an annual policy? I purchased an annual policy with TID based on its Covid cover earlier this year. At the time I had no intention of going skiing but I’ve decided to hit the slopes over Christmas. TID won’t add snow cover to my existing annual policy. They told me I’d have to purchase another policy.

I’ve looked at other companies but all of them seems to only cover skiing if I buy insurance from the date I leave Australia to to the date I return (3 weeks). I really only need the 6 days I’m skiing covered though. Should I be looking at companies based overseas, or does that cause its own issues?

I didn't get an multi trip but finally got insurance with COTA - originally was told they wouldn't cover pre-existing health issues but did a medical review and was charged an extra $500 for a four month trip plus $400 excess for the health conditions. I'm fine with that because I'm very confident that they aren't going to create any issues because both specialists don't want to see me for a year.

Very confused by quote for Australia only annual policy with Qantas. I've tried it on multiple devices and keep getting same quote - $270 for the two of us. At the moment we're only traveling domestic for 2023. This is less than combined excess reduction on the multiple car hires we have booked. What am I missing?

Just bumping this one up to see if anyone has had bright ideas about this? I've got the same issue (almost exactly! 6 days' worth of skiing).

Most the european ski insurances say you need to be a resident of their country to buy their insurance.

Getting very slightly tempted to just rely on the reciprocal health care agreement (Finland) but obviously that won't cover flights home etc if we need to change plans.

That’s where I’m at. Italy also has a reciprocal health care agreement, but if I need help getting home it’ll be a disaster. I got a major injury 22 years ago when a snowboarder went into me, so I’m pretty wary. Plus I read today that Italian resorts now require skiers to have third party insurance.

TID said they’d cancel my year long plan pro rata but only if I took out another year long plan with the skiing included. Of course that adds an extra $400 for a mere 6 days of skiing.

I had a look at UK plans out of interest and they’re so cheap compared to Australia. Unfortunately they’re not available to Australians.

Okay - found this Genki • Health Insurance for Digital Nomads

"Digital nomad" insurance - specifically says you can buy it when already left the country. For worldwide (excluding USA and Canada) it's 54 euros a month for me.

Also seems fairly generous with preexisting conditions - no cover when 'sought medical advice for conditions in the last 6 months', not 2 years as most seem to have.

Have prices doubled since covid??
I took out annual multi trip international policy with good2go (IAG, now defunct?) In October 2019 prior to a 2 week usa trip for $382.
Similar policy quote on qantas now $890!? 🥺
