Best annual TI policy to replace Amex Platinum policy

Not having looked at the pricing of all policies listed in this thread, but having been involved in the sale of travel and travel insurance products since 1995, I feel strongly that Cover-More, the only company which does ONLY travel insurance, is the best, and offers the most complete cover. The annual frequent traveller policy can be for trips of max 30 or 60 days, and can include spouse and dependant kids up to 21. You can find this online at their website, or at most good agencies like Travelscene, Flight Centre, etc. althiugh it may be branded with the agency's name. Cover-More is not the cheapest, but it's the best.

I just checked this and with a high excess the policy price is pretty good. I have never made a claim the higher excess is no problem.

I have been using the Amex Qantas Ultimate card since the changes that meant we could no longer transfer to QFF with the old Rewards Maximiser and got the Platinum Charge and Platinum Reserve cards in late November. We have a 5 week trip to Europe booked for September which will be covered by the old Platinum Insurance and we also have a cruise booked for next April from Sydney to Honolulu but haven't bought our return flights since we'll have to wait until late May until HNL-SYD flights go on sale. If I buy the flight before June 15 I should be covered for that flight and therefore that trip but it may be better to wait and watch out for cheap fares if there are any sales and look at using different insurance.

I also have ANZ Platinum Visa and Westpac Earth Platinum cards so will have to check out the insurance offered by them. I must admit that until now I've been purchasing travel insurance and not using the insurance offered with the cards since I was under the impression that the card provided insurance wasn't as good as the policies you buy but I hadn't read all the conditions closely. When I read here about the good policy offered with the Amex Platinum Charge card as well as the ability to transfer MR points to other programs as well as QF and also the 80,000 points bonus I applied for the Platinum cards. I haven't cancelled the Amex Qantas Ultimate card yet as the fee is due at the end of March and we still have a free QF flight to redeem which we will do in the next week or so and then cancel the card. I've thought about keeping that card since I am covered if I buy tickets with QFF points as well but it's probably not worth the annual fee on top of the $900 Platinum fee unless Amex offer a reduced fee - I suppose it doesn't hurt to ask.

It looks as though the ANZ policy may be okay, with only having to spend $250 of the cost of the trip on that card, in which case I wouldn't need to worry about trying to keep the Qantas Amex Ultimate card. I've just downloded the PDF policy documents for both those cards so will go through them thoroughly.

Has anyone had any experience in claiming from policies provided with ANZ Platinum or Westpac Platinum cards?

I hate to say it, but the Jetstar Platinum Mastercard insurance terms are pretty good:

http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/creditcards/~/_media/1CBFDBAECBD14B91BCAB0D893956CDCB.pdf

- the card only has a $149 fee (free for first year);
- you only need to put the overseas airfare on the card to activate;
- limited definition of pre-extsing medical condition (only something treated in last 30 days);
- 120 consecutive days coverage.

I would however be embarrassed to present it to anyone for payment.

I've applied for the qantas CU platinum card, and I noticed on the website they have travel insurance too. Annual policy allowed up to 90 days per trip.

Haven't had a chance to go through the fine print yet.

Chubb Insurance annual policy through our work broker suits us. Reasonable premium, wide cover, low excess, quick claim payments are my experience with them.

Would recommend checking them.

Cheers

Pity its almost impossible to get the card!

OMG is there a known issue with this...? I applied and got knocked back a few months ago - sure I have some high limits (but didn't declare them all) and most other cards I have are giving increases all the time and have no problem giving me credit...

Are they particularly tight?

I think its probably a good point to make that taking out a new card and paying more fees is probably not a good solution unless other cards are cancelled - I'm thinking a dedicated insurance policy might be the way to go but it seriously hurts to pay $900 for the Amex and another $300 for annual insurance just to feel like you're covered...:shock:

I cannot recommend any travel insurance but I have a QBE policy with TravelInsurance.com.au and it only cost me ~$170, with QFF points, and I also reduced the excess down to $0 and paid ~$240 all up. This cover only includes ~72 hours in the USA per trip otherwise cost is the same as TID and this suits me down to the ground as I do not travel to the USA.

P.S I have not had any claims under the current insurance.

Prior to AMEX plat charge, I was with with Medibank Travel Insurance. 10% off for health fund members.
$390 for full year (inc family - while travelling WITH policyholder)
So the original Amex deal was great when my daughter went alone to France on exchange for 6 weeks - with Medibank we would have required an extra policy at $110.

I want an annual policy covering dependent family whether together or not.
Am now screwed cos,
Son and I travelling QF to LHR this June
Mrs Duffa and daughter SQ to AMS on same day
Are we travelling "together"?

Chubb Peoplesure policy is the best on the market by a mile, fantastic value, unmatched cover no pre existing exclusions, great claims service and policy can be endorsed for specific requirments. Only catch is its designed for people in business. Hve sold many of these policys and never an issue.

Annual policy?

I'm intrigued to know about the Chubb policy too - it doesn't seem to exclude personal travel either. I would like one of these policies written for myself and my partner - is that possible, and what would the costs be?

I notice that TID has a Group Travel Insurance offer for 5 or more people, with the option for the Insurance to be paid by individuals (rather than all in one). Maybe AFF could offer a group annual policy discount as an option?
