I have just booked a J classic award for my husband and me LHR to HK Oct. 13. This is on Cathay. Have not been able find any awards LHR/BNE so having to do it in 2 separate bookings and hoping for a JASA to BNE.

We have never flown Cathay before and would appreciate some advice as to the best J seats. This is a 777 and has row 11 and 12 in a separate cabin, then a lot more J seats behind.

Thanks for any help with this.

I hear row 11 starboard side is pretty good. Otherwise, aim for somwhere in the middle of the main J cabin.
note some seats dont have full windows apparently.

Last time i flew, i was in row 22... Was right beside the engines which meant it was slightly noisier but relatively ok otherwise.

CX block the first couple of rows for their elites. Do you have OWE status, if so lets say row 13 would normally be the first row available unless you could change at the club or checkin.

Thanks for your replies.

We are both gold status. Row 11 and 12 is available. At the moment I have selected the 2 middle seats in row 11. I noticed that the last 2 rows in J are blocked ...rows 20 something. Is there a reason for that?

AFAIK JASAs only earn on QF group flights, so a classic is better in that context.

Take them. Are you on a 777-300ER, there are four versions, hopefully the two seats you refer to are the herringbone layout on the refurb birds.

I can assure you that you will be very happy in row 12 on the "new business class" as Cathay call it. I have just come back from N.America with CX and it was probably the best business seat I have ever sat in. Goes totally flat approx 7 feet long. Doesn't sag or anything like that. Very comfortable indeed. Lots of storage. Row 11 + 12 are definitely the pick of the house.

Slept for 9 hours on the way back. Crew and food excellent all round. Certainly gives SQ a run for their money.

Thanks to all for your replies. Feel very confident now about our choice.

FYI, note that apparently that there is a soild linen bin somewhere along the port side of the mini cabin...
Recommend to check out the FT CX page - there's a bit more information on seating choices there too...
