Been waiting for another AY Business RTW sale but being pointed towards LX as alternative. Current uncertainty aside, wondering what is best OW business class RTW option ex PER but avoiding transiting asia.

Your only option is QF. No one else in oneworld offers a fare that lets you avoid Asia on a round the world basis.

FYI a AY sale started on 01/02. It's on until 08/03.

Thanks OZDUCK,

This looks like the stand EU sale ex Oz which, while good, is not the RTW hopefully madrooster can highlight.

So still no AY RTW sale?

A sale started 01/02 and is on until 08/03. It's as low as $5.2-5.3k return to Europe via Asia in J. If you were hoping for that price via the US, that has been permanently removed - AY will no longer be doing those.

My bolding.

These two statements are exclusive of each other.

A return J to Europe is not a round the world. I've never known AY provide a RTW which avoids Asia, usually have to gate out of/into Australia via an AY asian port (and there are quite a few). The RTW also has ability to transit multiple Asian ports eg EU to Australia via HEL/HKG/SIN as I did last year.

Which is why I specifically stated return to Europe via Asia (that is, I never called the 5.2k price a RTW)... I'm not sure what your point is given you've taken two different posts and taken specific sentences out of context.

Thanks for the clarification that you *are* speaking of two separate sales.

As requested in Post #6: can you please provide a link to the current AY RTW J sale you state is separate to the AY EU J sale.

Bd

I think thet the oneworld is confusing people. Finnair no longer do RTW. If you want OW minimum is 8500 with CX. See here

That is indeed sad - and contradicts this advice here: AY RTW J Fare

Given your assertion that OW cannot be had for less that $8500 I may well reach out to these guys - I was holding off on the offchance that the Feb-14 expiry on this fare would herald a true AY RTW J sale (as happened last year).

I don't have a link for you, but I can tell you that a sale is definitely active.

The AY fares still exist, just that it's in the $7k ballpark these days not $5k. It's also more restrictive than before.

I never thought of the RTW being $5-6k, AY's own website prices EU Sale fares at roughly sub-$6k, I know OTAs can price lower. I was hoping for RTW for something like $6.5k. However given you can get EU sales ex-ADL on OW through OTAs for roughly $5.5k I'd probably look to position there and then use a later SC-run to bring the SCs up to RTW levels. Even though this would price higher, spreading the cost over my membership year would make it more palatable. However this would forego a visit to friends in the US which the RTW would have enabled.

The RTW used to be as low as $5.5k.

Pricing is no longer common rated either. Northern destinations are now cheaper and southern destinations are now more expensive. To be honest, with the changes to the AY fares, you might well be better off paying a little extra and getting your SCs via the US to save having to do a deliberate SC run later. It is absolutely possible to get the fare down to about $6.5k, routing via the US and Asia earning 880 on the whole ticket. Or, pay an extra $750 and go via the US both ways, earning 1040.

I was thinking the AY RTW sale had been held up by the fight with Sabre... Last year managed to do RTW up via US back via HKG with DSC so will have to look at EU rtn ex PER via SIN for 5738 ish and maybe get train south from TXL or AMS
