Best credit cards to earn velocity points?

Early days as I've only recently aquired a Platinum Virgin High Flyer Card.

If I spend $7500 in the next 3 months I'll get 50K Velocity points plus a coughload of status points (I don't know how many but I'll reach the mandatory 7.5K spend pretty easily anyway).

I also get international travel insurance, Employment insurance & extended warranties on purchases.

I get 4 domestic flights a year at Saver level cost to me where my partner flies free with me.

I get 1.25 points per transaction & it's a Visa so I can pay everything including things that don't accept Amex so including water, electricity, council rates , etc.

For $249 PA sound's pretty good to me. Let's see what happens.

I'm pretty happy with it so far.....close to the 7.5k spend and looking forward to my 50k points :)

APPARENTLY (and I cant 100% verify this) VA have relaxed the rules around the 2-4-1 Credit card flights offer with Virgin Flyer credit cards. It used to be that they were only available for sale-priced fares, now apparently they are available for all saver fares, regardless of prices (i.e. you can choose the most expensive saver fare that day if you want and still get it 2-4-1). My partner and I have now booked eight 2-4-1 flights (as we both have Virgin CCs) in the last 6 months which has saved us many hundreds of dollars and more than offset the annual fee.

I WISH you could book these through the velocity website like with redemption fares rather than the painful 20 minute call to the Virgin call centre!

This offer isn't available anymore, is it? That makes me very sad!

The offer has changed and been extended.
Earn 15,000 bonus Velocity Points[SUP]^[/SUP]. Simply apply for a Virgin High Flyer Credit Card by 31 March 2012 and spend $5000 over the first 3 months.

I recently moved to Australia too and would like to have a credit card (not just to earn FF points, but also to pay for things in AUD instead of USD) but they all seem to require permanent residency. I'm currently on a student visa and can't apply for permanent residency for another 2.5 years - does anyone know of any credit cards available for people like me? Or is there some way around the permanent residency requirement?

I'm in the process of getting a High Flyer - when I use the 2 for 1 flights - will the free flight get points and status credits? Site seems to imply yes and that a 50% discount will be applied to the total booking - any insight?

Westpac Altitude was 2 : 1 when transfer to Velocity
With Altitude the earn is:
Amex: 2 Altitude points per $1 spent
Visa/Mastercard: 1 Altitude point per $1 spent

You are effectively getting 1 : 1 if you just use Amex, which is almost impossible, or 0.5 : 1 with Visa/MC
