Best Economy Seat Qantas A330-300 Economy

Hi all

Does any one have any pictures or details of the Legroom in 24J in Economy on the A330-300, as I have been advised by VIP team these are the best seats. I am concerned about the Bulkhead and how restrictive it maybe.

What experiences do people have and what would you suggest as the best seats.

I don't have a picture but I've flown many times in 24J. The legroom is good (a bit more than A380 row 32 upper deck if that helps you) but you can't extend your legs fully. So it's a very good seat for day flight, for overnight it depends on preference regarding stretching legs.

Yes, row 23/24 (depending on the layout) are great seats if you’re less than 6ft tall. Of course if you’re travelling on your own and sharing the pair of seats with bassinets in use then getting in and out of the window seat becomes challenging.
I will always try to grab them though for the legroom and the lack of a seat reclining into you.

I am 183cm and do not take economy bulkhead seats on Qantas A330's for flights scheduled for more than an hour or two.

The best non exit legroom seats on a QF A333 are 55K or 55A. On the 243Y A332 it is 51A/K and on the 204/224Y A332 it is 52A/K.

This is where the rows change angle for the narrower rear, it's only up to a few cm but every bit helps

Conversely, 55J and 55B have less than average legroom.

How long is the flight is the key question?

As stated by Serfty above flight duration is the key variable. I did them SYD-MEL weekly back in the Y days and it's great. I've also done a few SIN-SYD personal and wouldn't favour them for a flight to Asia based on lack of 'stretchability' for lack of a better word. This is where you see feet on bulkhead and people desperate to find a comfortable sleeping/resting position.

I'm way under 6' and even I find those bulkhead seats too restrictive, as I like to stretch out my legs.

Its interesting serfty that the seat map in the link shows a seats 23 J and K yet the Qantas and Seat Guru map has it starting at row 24. Does this mean there is even more legroom at 24J and K?

On the A333 24J/K have more legroom than other bulkhead seats. I'm 6'5" and I don't mind 24J for a day flight to SIN.

We've done the bulkhead to HNL and back. While you can't stretch your legs out fully, I prefer not to have someone's seat right back in my face.

I'm 5'10 and can't have my legs straight. For me, I'll happily grab those seats for a day flight, but not for an overnight flight where I wish to sleep.

To follow up on this topic im looking at classic reward flights on 330 300 international route (10hrs) and pretty much exit rows are all gone (no business awards anywhere i can see). Is a seat like 41a with nobody behind you the next best or row 55 as mentioned by serfty above? I've not flown on Qantas for over a decade so have no clue.

I’m well over 6 foot and prefer the bulkheads. Once you get over a certain height the choice is between your knees poking the seat in front *or* not being able to stretch your legs fully.

The latter wins. You can still move around, cross your legs, do whatever in a bulkhead… but can’t do the same in a regular row

Plus not having anyone recline is a huge advantage.

At a bulkhead I place a standard-sized rolla-board in the floor and use it as a horizontal footrest. Very comfy.

I personally would go for the window/aisle bulkhead seats pair if you’re not too tall. No one to recline on you but I know others like to stretch their feet under the seat in front. I’m ~178cm / 5’10” and manage fine. The seats are slightly narrower (IFE and trays in armrests). Again, I don’t notice that.

Check carefully the config and whether side or middle are bassinet seats. There’s the risk of getting bumped if you’re in those.

For an overnight flight, I'd be avoiding the bulkhead (I'm also 5'10). I'm sleeping at night so less fussed about the seat in front of me being reclined and prefer being able to have my legs straight.

I've chosen 23K exit row many times when travelling alone. I know the cowling can be in the way but at 5'8" (and shrinking) never been an issue for me stretching legs out. Quite often used to have vacant 23J as well.

I would not take any bulkhead seat on A332 or even A333. Legroom too restrictive. I once got off a SIN-PER flight with extreme pain in calves due to restricted legroom. Did this a few times when we travelled with my daughter but never again.

Unfortunately I now struggle to fit in exit row so we choose any of the 2 seats window side + aisle seat across the aisle when we travel together. Don't want to risk sitting in 3 of 4 middle seats.

Anyone done row 77 on the Qantas A380?

From what I can think of:

Pros:
- Can reline all flight without any guilt.
- No one kneeing your seat.
- Less *passenger* noise since there's 'no one' behind you.
- Might generally feel more 'snug' in the corner if trying to sleep.
- Would smell better than being near the loos!

Cons:
- Seats recline less? (as I'm 194cm, space is an issue for a Singapore/London flight)
- Galley behind so you get hit with extra *cabin crew* noise/light. But with an eyemask, earplugs and noise cancelling headphones might not be too much of an issue?
