Best fare from SYD to CNS

Hi all,
I am checking fares from Sydney to Cairns...dep 27 or 28 Dec, return 03 or 04 Jan. The best I can do is around $900.
I really don't mind routing if I can save money. Are there ideas? I was checking out SYD-TSV with separate TSV-CNS which brings cost to around $800.
I don't mind de-tour via AKL or elsewhere. Don't at all mind flying longer.

Looks like going via Townsville on Qantas for about $400 is the lowest on the way up.

Cheapest return on the 3rd Jan is CNS-TSV-SYD with DJ for $99, $235.
On the 4th you could do CNS-BNE for $199, then BNE to SYD for $115, or via TSV with QF for $135, $234. Direct price on QF is $324.

EDIT: CNS-SYD on the 4th Jan with QF for only $209!
