Best Hotel to stay in Perth for a wedding anniversary

Hi There

I am taking Mrs Mur@no70 away for our wedding anniversary for an extended weekend to Perth without the kids. I already have the J class seats sorted on VA (we are coming from Sydney) and not having been to Perth for nearly 8 years I don't have any recent experiences with hotels over there.

I have done some research which has lead me to either The Richardson or Crown Metropol - very different styles I know. Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions on these or other hotels in or around Perth?

Bundy Bear is at the Hilton tonight at $125 including breakfast. The restaurant is quite good. You could PM him to get a 2014 opinion. The hotel has no view but it seems to be ok if you run on Hilton loyalty.
The Crown has some good places to dine so that should be considered. Have had people say they really like it.
The Hyatt lost its fine dining but the rooms are pretty good. There are two restaurants in the property plus the Cafe smorgasbord and Joes Oriental.

Depends really on what you are after. The restaurant at The Richardson is excellent at priced as such. If that style takes your fancy, but you think it is too out of the way, take a look at The Terrace Hotel too.

Thanks for your thoughts so far. This is the only weekend of a year that we have away from our two young kids so we are keen to have a couple of nice, peaceful and uninterrupted dinners whilst staying somewhere we can be a bit pampered.

Crown has improved the restaurant offerings so you may choose that or if the price is too high you can go Holiday Inn next door and have more for dinners and a show and pampering.

The Crown Metropol is far and away the best hotel in Perth.

If you have a car and don't mind being out of the City a bit, look at the Rendezvous. I stayed there last weekend and it was very good.

So the hotel changed its name I guess. I don't gamble so I have not been back other than for dining and shows. Thanks for the correction ashleyn.
By the way which restaurants are the go on that complex?

Hi, as Cove mentioned I stayed at the Parmelia Hilton last night, the rate was $155.00 including breakfast as Diamond for 2 people.

The Hilton has a number of different rooms sizes so I am sure if you have activated your VA to Hilton match then you will be treated rather well, the place has been renovated but it still seems a bit old, and no lounge is a bit of a let down, the bar does give you a voucher for 2 drinks which is a bit slack.

Adelphi Grill does a good steak and all of their meals are very good, they also do the breakfast which are above Hilton standard.

The Richardson, don't know about and the Crown Metropol I heard was good, but that review was from a work colleague who doesn't travel.

For an out of the way place the Rendezvous at Scarborough isn't too bad, the rooms are nice, good size, was there when a friend was over from East so good location right on the beach.

The Hyatt has a good location on Adelaide Street, and if you can get a room with lounge access then the view is pretty good from the lounge and the room sizes on that floor would be pretty good.

Too me it might come down whether you are going to have a car or whether you want a non car weekend so the city it would have to be, also it would come down to price. I wouldn't stay at the Hilton for more than $250 a night I would keep looking, as I have seen the Hilton above $350 - $400 which is an insane price.

Scarborough is about 11kms west from the city.

I think (her?) point was that there are 2 hotels in the complex, the Crown Promenade and the Crown Metropol, supplanting the old names of IC Burswood and Holiday Inn Burswood. The Metropol is the old Holiday Inn I think.

Crown Metropol was formerly the IC and Crown Promenade was formerly the Holiday Inn. I stay at Metropol exclusively when I'm in Perth thanks to a very reasonable (for Perth) negotiated corporate rate and I can't fault the place. I'm fond of Metropol in Melbourne also and I'd say Metropol Perth is of a similar standard.

Stay at Metropol. Great pool, excellent restaurants (big names like Rockpool, Nobu and Guilliame Brahimi). Comfy rooms with excellent baths

I stayed at Hilton this week again and was not impressed. Old and drab, especially the bathroom.

The problem with Perth is what to do with yourself after 5pm (even on weekends). I've stayed at the Scarb beach hotel years ago when it was still Rendezvous Observation City. Was pretty worn even then and seems to have gone downhill since ... also Scarborough after dark is dead and dodgy. Hilton needs to move out of the Parmelia property IMHO and let someone do a complete refurb, its not up to snuff for 5* chain....also, again, nothing doing after 5pm at that end of town.

Any votes for the Duxton? I've never stayed but I often trot along there for a meal or a beer, nice enough down stairs. The old Sheraton (now Pan Pacific) has decent in-house dining, I've eaten there a number of times and their club lounge is really superb, I've never stayed in the rooms though.

I'd probably end up voting for one of the Crown properties though, if for no better reason than there being something to do after dark in the casino precinct - even if you're not a gambler, lots of decent food and other distractions going on.

Frasers Suites is new and should be pretty nice but I have not heard what their product is like in Perth.
If you have a car you don't get locked into staying at the Crown and it's associated restaurants which can be pretty pricey even by Perth pricing.
If you are doing a show at the Regal Theatre in Subiaco I would dine at Bistro Des Artistes rather than something at Crown. Then Chez Pierre in Nedlands is always ok.
Redezvous at Scarborough is in a great position for eye candy at the beach but the quality of the hotel is a bit risky compared with the others mentioned.

some really good small bars now in the CBD area, 30 to choose from. The print hall and the trustee on the terrace are good spots.

Is the Print Hall closed? I have heard on the grapevine that there may be $$ issues and it wasn't open last Friday night, normally a prime time for that sort of place.

I do like the Trustee though. Been to a few degustations there.

Thankyou to everyone who has contributed it is much appreciated. I have read both this thread and I found another - http://www.australianfrequentflyer....nation-guide/perth-where-to-stay-47235-4.html and think that we will give the Rendezvous in Perth a go in one of their Club Rooms. They have now finished their reno and by all accounts it seems to have come up well and we have no real need to be in the CBD. Drinks on the 25th floor overlooking the ocean is extremely appealing!
