Best place for a white Christmas

After many years of suggesting a white Christmas, this year everyone agreed it would be a good idea. What are the groups suggestions of the best white Christmas location. Not fussed about it actually snowing on Christmas Day, but obviously that is a plus if it does. We have predominantly VA points but if we have to pay for J we will. At this stage 6 adults traveling.

I am sure you will get many varied responses. But I would personally choose to spend it in the south of Germany, near Füssen (about an hour south of Munich). A beautiful part of the world and you'll have a lake, mountains and several castles nearby.

I visited around Christmas time a couple of years ago. The whole experience was magical and it did snow.

We went to Salzburg in Austria for Christmas last year.
Nice little town with a lot of markets at night. Plenty of attractions nearby; castles, zoo, mountains. We also did a sleigh ride an hours bus trip away on Christmas day.

Good transport by train to other places as well.

For a Christmas/ New Years package look at Prague; but the crowds in the square are outrageous and may not be good for grandparents.

Next white Christmas will look at North America but for quaintness you cannot beat Europe in winter. Germany is very good with plenty of English speaking people about.

We've spent a white Christmas (pre-kids) in Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland, had a beautiful meal Christmas Eve then skied for most of Christmas Day.

Looking at taking kids to Whistler for a white Christmas in the next couple of years. Brugge would also be high on my list, most beautiful town ever and the Christmas markets are gorgeous.

Hard to guarantee a white Christmas in many places these days. NYC had 20 degrees the other day. I'd be looking somewhere high up, maybe an alpine town in Austria or Switzerland if you want to be sure of snow.

I almost forgot about the Christmas markets! Another great reason to spend a Christmas in Germany or Austria. I've visited the markets in Munich, Nuremberg, Salzburg, Vienna, Zurich and Berlin. My favourite market was the one in Nuremberg, but there are a couple of fantastic ones in Munich too. My favourite Munich Christmas market is the medieval one.

I had a fantastic white Christmas at Waterton National Park, in western Canada, on the border with the US. The park is very quiet at that time of year, but still beautiful. That was many years ago, so not sure what it is like now.

subscribed - has to be somewhere that there is snow on Christmas day but can't ski so not fussed if it's in a ski area - thinking Dolomites or similar

When our son lived in New York we had several white Christmases. One year we rented a cottage in the Pocono Mountains, it was on a small frozen lake - with only 3 other houses, it was very pretty there was at least a foot of snow on the ground and it snowed while we were there. Another year we rented a house in the Adirondack Mountains, it had even more snow than the Poconos ! Both lovely houses fully equipped and even had a Xmas tree up. We had several Christmases in New York City and unlike this year it did snow. One place that I think is very pretty is Lake Louise and staying at the hotel - you would not have to cook !

It really depends on what you want from a white Christmas.To me it is not about shopping and luxury hotels but time with family/friends experiencing something special for those from Australia.As mrsdrron said we had a white Christmas in the Adirondacks with our extended family.It was brilliant.Fortunately it was just after I felt confident to attempt a Trip Report.No photos and the links to photos at the end no longer work.
Mind you Lake Louise would be nice.

We loved our White Christmas/New Years in Quebec City, Canada, gorgeous walled city with tiny European like cobblestoned streets.Extreme cold minus 28 when we were there. There is also a fantastic snow tubing park (largest in North America) Val Cartier. We have just left Berlin (currently in Rome), no snow but very cold.
