Looked online and westpac and CBA dont have that on their list.ANZ wants me to go to a FX centre and NAB uses the Travelex rate.Amex and i can do it on line but dont want too much so the fee makes it a little expensive.
Any alternatives?

The airport when you arrive? Sure the rate will probably suck, but JOD probably isn't going to be the easiest currency to get hold of in Australia.

From memory there was an ATM in the airport prior to the Visa queues (Visa to get in is 20JOD cash) - however I wouldn't rely on it working. I flew from UAE so got my JOD in AUH airport - not helpful sorry!

Yes my question was after reading several reports on FT of arriving in Jordan with no Jods,ATM out of order and bank closed in the early morning and we are arriving at 0500.So thought it best to have some readies.
Thanks foreigner that is handy. We will be in Sydney at Easter-though I presume even the Arab Bank will be closed. However our son can do it for us.Their rate is better than ANZ and Amex with a smaller fee.

Hey Dr Ron and Mrs Ron,
I look forward to meeting you in person. Thanks for your wonderful trip reports.
I have flown in to MCT a number of times. There are a number of ATM's available once you enter the public areas of arrivals. I have NEVER failed to get a cash draw from one of the number of machines available. If I was ever in that situation, I would use a currency exchange office (there are many) to get a small amount of currency ($40) to cover the fixed price taxi and a tiny bit more. Then when I got to my hotel, I would assume an ATM would be avilable close by.

Best wishes to you both. John.

Just for information the Arab bank does not sell JODs.Amex rate today is $A=0.67 Jods but in Jordan the rate is 0.745.guess I will be trying out the ATM.

drron, when are you guys heading to Jordan? I transit there tomorrow so could get some JODs for you, but I won't be in Aus again for 3 weeks...

Thats fine.We have been communicating with a jordanian who is going to drive us to various places and have things sorted-thanks for the offer though.
We will be there in July.

I wonder if like 95% of the world you can just pay (negotiated price) in USD?

When I was in Jordan last year, I just got some JODs via the ATM once I arrived.

I arrived at 05.10 this morning and the currency exchange booth prior to visa queue was open; didn't test ATM or USD usage though as I am transitting, sorry!
