Thats using points, not a published purchasable fare, BNE BKK is not 6 hours, its 8.

So for the SQ example you said, its using points ?
Points + $600 ?
Krisflyer miles + $600 ?
How many points/miles exactly ?

Or maybe I'm misunderstanding something.

Its $600 worth of points through Avianca each way, and I have not included the taxes which will vary depending on flights, a recent trip I took I think that added $175 for the return but it was BNE_SIN_KUL_BKK .

Ah now I get it.
Cheers.

I would be interested to know. Would you care to share?
Hint - consider the marketing of a service/product.

Also consider who pays for those Amex, onepath or optus points you may receive in exchange for fiduciary loyalty?

Well, other businesses with maybe not such large client bases can have similar deals with rewards programs such as QFF.

Of course there can be provisos with such in a business' relationship with a rewards program. Things such as minimum total points purchases (say from 2 million per year), distribution of rewards points needs to reflect client base (i.e. You can't give them all to just your uncle and second cousin).

thanks serfty.

the impression given earlier was that members of the public can buy qantas points outside of the QF website.

Can't you also go direct BNE-BKK(-HKT)?

The beauty of lifemiles is that you can search for your flights before buying any miles. Sign up at lifemiles.com and have a play around with what you want.

So you think if I'm satisfied with Evonomy flights to forget about the points side of things and buy the $550 return scoot tickets (which includes baggage, taxes, etc) or wait for Qantad ticks to go on sale? They're the best two options?

Even if you managed to get Qantas points from somewhere, when redeeming there will be a tax and surcharge component, and that will easily be around the $400 or so mark. So this avenue is definitely not good value.

Yeah. I've got to buy 2 tickets as well (one for me, one for my partner) I've found economy return tickets with Scoot for $550 return each... Which isn't too bad, but ideally I'd like it to be even cheaper... Dreaming about ($500 return for the two), so just trying to evaluate what's the best method to either find economy tickets around that price or enough points with some airline to reduce the price to around this mark too.

Is anyone else not a little shocked by this unrealistic expectation?
The OP is wanting to spend $500 for 2 people to travel from BNE/OOL to Thailand, a distance of approximately 8000 km each way, at a fuel burn rate of, lets say, 3 l/passenger/100km, meaning each be responsible for 480 litres of Jet-A at a price of approximately US$0.80 per litre. The fuel cost alone would be around US$750......

Interesting. Is the SQ J and F normally bookable from Avianca, or is this more like an exception?

SQ F no. SQ regional J yes (but that's available through all star partners anyway). SQ longhaul J is available - at least temporarily - through LM (and may not be available through other star partners.)

This is definitely a good tip for those in the realm of the big ato bills for which the horizon seems to be creeping closer.

However given the banks are most likely paying between 1-1.5c/point and purchasing billions/ year from FF program's I'd be interested to hear what the going rate is for smaller merchants.

To the lay flyer, yeah it seems a bit unrealistic. But here, we are a different kettle of flyers. Many of us here want bang for your buck, sometimes we push those boundaries and get a lot more bang for that same buck. Often, many of us here fly in premium cabins for less than the price of economy. Now, to a lay flyer .... that's unrealistic. Here, that's easily done.

OT Jetstar had $0.10 fares last Friday. I managed to snare a SYD-OOL return for $0.20. My outlay wouldn't even contribute to the fuel cost, even at idle ;)

Why not? People are already getting $250 returns to SIN via Expedia.br so not much further to HKT and the further you fly the cheaper it becomes.

Really? I thought the thread title indicated prices were more around the $400 mark. The reason these flights are so cheap is because of competition and a quirk of brazilian law that seemingly prevents airlines from charging fuel surcharges.

If the OP was able to secure flights for 2 people for $500, whether that be via legitimate/mistake fares or expedia.br, good on them, but it simply doesnt cover the operating costs of the flights. But to name an unrealistic price and be disappointed when they can't book flights is unreasonable and no airline needs customers that they effectively pay to fly with them.

Dont get me wrong, I like a bargain as much as the next guy, but I dont expect them nor use them to gauge what should be the new norm from which I base any future purchases on.

I did not disagree with what you posted but people are getting bargains out there such as this deal, mistake fares etc and then plastering it all over the internet on forums such as AFF, Flyertalk etc which makes inexperienced travellers jealous and wanting to see if they can get it cheaper.

Yes, unless one manages to find the points for free (eg family transfer), the cost / benefit equation is unfortunately not in the OP's favour (and possibly in the negative by a long way !). The two desired Y award fares to Thailand would EACH attract the $400 extra charge.

I can see OOL-BKK for about $680 with Expedia.br. with QF and Emirates. Under $500 from BNE with QF.
