Yes I know it's been asked before but I can't seem to find the threads anywhere...

I've booked a number of flights for next September so I have a large range of seats available to me. Thus far the cabins are all largely open and given I'm SG I've been allocated fairly good seats towards the front. However, can anyone suggest some "better than forward" seats on the following. I like an aisle and I'm travelling with someone.

QF31 SYD-SIN A388 - Currently 53H/J
QF31 SIN-LHR A388 - Currently 53H/J
BA177 LHR-JFK B744 - Currently 34 C/B - 33 (front row) is available however I believe the bulkhead is restrictive?
QF108 JFK-LAX B744 - Currently 54C/B
QF26 LAX-AKL - Currently 26C/B - Front row of economy, does the bulkhead pose much of a problem (seat guru says it gives extra room, however I'm not sure)
QF26 AKL-MEL - Won't let me allocate

As far as I can see, the "missing seat" rows on the A380 are still available. Are they better than the forward ones?

Thanks!

80A/K are the ones with the seat in front missing on the a380.. I sat in 80K my last Mel-LAX and it was great...

If you are travelling with one other partner the seats up the back of the 747 are good where it goes 2-4-2 the window seat has quite a lot of space next to it for your stuff

71D too. Had that SYD-LAX last week - fantastic seat (though you'll make everyone around you very jealous...).

Cheers,
- Febs.

On the A380 last week I had seat 80A from LHR-SIN then had 71D SIN-SYD. I felt very special!

Any preference between the 2, Dede? Both are open at this stage. Does row 71 offer any more legroom? (got to think about the other half who will be stuck next to me wherever I end up!)

Trade off would be
80K: window, but colder due to being near the exit... prompt service from the galley.

71D: Aisle so no window, but not near an exit... closer to the font so less crush on the way out...

Yeah, from row 80 do not have any thoughts of being one of the first off the aircraft upon arrival. Simply sit back and enjoy the tail cam view of the aero-bridges docking.

80A/K are better than 71D as the traffic is a lot less and you have a sort of private space.

Certainly no issues with being cramped by the walls at the shoulder as the fuselage is still curving away from you.

FWIW, I did not find 80A cold at all - it is at least a metre from the exit door.

Same here... just parroting Seat Guru...

Go row 80... And allocate it soon, Not long until QF designate it an exit row given how good it is :)

80A/K.
Unless you want a fast exit due to transfer times or immigration waiting etc...
As serfty pointed out; be prepared to wait for the exit.
Especially as A380 has higher loads the immigration wherever you are will take longer.
:)

Seriously, what seats can you choose from?

Seems that most of the cabin is open at the moment. Given it's going to be the 2 class plane, what would be the better option? Should I stay close to the front incase it gets swapped for a 3 class? Or isn't this likely on the LAX-AKL leg? As mentioned, front row of Y right now but I don't know how restrictive the bulkhead is.

Except you have to watch on your neighbour's screen, or swing your own up from its stowed position where it was stored during landing and taxi.

My pref would also be 80A/K. Passenger at 80B or 80J is likely to exit to the aisle over 80A/H, while if seated in 71D, you will find 71E will want to step over yor outstretched legs to get to the aisle.

IMHO, Yes! OK, you are at the rear of the immigration queue in LHR but it's a long flight - extra comfort for 6-8 hours (There are two of you) or an extra 20 minutes in the queue.

  • BA177 LHR-JFK B744 - Currently 34 C/B - 33 (front row) is available however I believe the bulkhead is restrictive?
    • It's up to you; both SeatGuru and SeatExpert recommend row 33.
  • QF108 JFK-LAX B744 - Currently 54C/B
    • I'd go for 53H/J if you can - otherwise 52B/C
  • QF26 LAX-AKL - Currently 26C/B - Front row of economy, does the bulkhead pose much of a problem (seat guru says it gives extra room, however I'm not sure)
    • Plenty of room at two class bulk head (unless you are 190cm+), ABCHJK seats don't have bassinets.

My experience is with 80A and I was permitted use of my swingout monitor. Note that row 80 is not a designated exit row. I had a great view landing into MEL last March. :D

Actually, watching the tail cam as it appoached, I noted the aircraft had a slight yaw to the left. This indicated a westerly breeze as we were landing on 34.

The breeze must have eased a tad as the aircraft started to drift off centre to the left, so the aircraft was straightened and began to drift to the right, eventually going past the centre and a bit more. So a bit of nosing back to the left and the aircraft lazily began to head back towards center, then straightghing up over the runway as it reached the centre line in perfect alignment for touchdown.

SkyCam - fascinating!

BTW, I would suggest 80A/B over 80J/K on QF31 SYD-SIN to avoid the glare/heat of the sunset.

I found it harder to watch the tail cam from 80A because there is no seat directly in front with IFE. At least with 71D there was a seat in front with IFE you could look at. If you're flying with a partner maybe you can take turns in the seat?

As per my previous post, I did not have to stow my Screen.
