Best SC for Sapporo

Is it cheaper to book a 17,000 mile circle asia economy fare so that I can include Sapporo? (PER-MEL-NRT-SPK-NRT-HKG-SIN-PER)

Or is it cheaper to book a return ticket on JAL from their website (with mileage and SC for QFF)?

Does anyone know what booking class economy circle asia fares are? Does this vary with the different airlines? eg QF,CX,JAL.

Is there a JAL lounge that QF WP members can use in Sapporo?

thanks

Chucksta

I am also needing to get to Sapporo in Janurary. 23-30th Jan.

Looking at options that will work Ex Per. in J I hope.

There is a JAL Sakura lounge at Sapporo (Chitose Airport), historically open only to JAL elite members. One would guess though that this policy was revised once JAL joined OneWorld to accomodate partner airlines' elites, but I don't know.

Sapporo is 2 hours away from the ski field of Niseko; I used a travel agent to book the flights and accomodation.

Early December is probably too early, good snow even for Australians but I would be waiting until early January before going.

Airport for Sapporo is Chitose; which has the code CTS; but did notice SPK on the baggage label.

From NRT there is not that many daily flights; most flights are from Haneda the Tokyo airport which is closer to town.

Instead of going via NRT both ways you could also look at flying via KIX; Osaka; Kansai.

As for the snow; great worth the trip and as the Japanese Yen; has gone downward, eating and other costs aren't so expensive.

Is it better to route through PER-SYD-NRT... or PER-MEL-NRT

Which has got the better F lounge? Is the MEL F lounge a mini version of the SYD F lounge?

I'm leaning towards MEL because I can overnight it in the Hilton MEL Airport Hotel, which is linked to the terminal.

I'm not really concerned about the day of travel. The time of flight from both SYD and MEL are acceptable.

I think PER-NRT is only 763 operated whereas MEL-NRT is on an A330 and 763. For me if the price is the same then I would avoid the 763.

The two FLounges are similar and I would not call MEL a mini version of SYD. The facilities are pretty much the same. Go for the one that is most convenient.

MEL it is then...

Is this a valid routing for a 17,000 mile OW Circle Asia Economy Fare?

PER-MEL-NRT-HND-CTS-HKG-KUL-HKG-SIN-PER

Total miles is 16597 and 170 SC.

Planning to arrive at Narita and departing at Haneda for Sapporo.

Using QF

Going via MEL involves a 3.5 hour overnight flight on a domestic flight from PER to connect to a 10:20 flight onwards ( or an overnight in Melbourne )

Going via SYD involves a 4 hour domestic flight from PER followed by a 10:05 overnight flight to NRT

I cannot see how that can be better than taking the 9:45 overnight flight on an international 767

Dave

I hate overnight flights and also hate the 767 even more! I will be either taking the dayflight from SYD or MEL.

Sorry Dave. Forgot to mention I was using a OW Circle Asia Fare.

That's why i'm routing through SYD or MEL

I can't wait for the 767s to be taken off long haul duty. Never again after spending 7 hours each way in WHY on a SYD-CGK return a few years ago. Although I notice that SYD-MNL is a 767 which makes it unavoidable unless routing via HKG.

SYD-CGK? 767? Luxury

CGK is a ride in a 737 from PER.

Luxury? I don't think so. I think the 737s are OK but not for more than a 3-4 hour flight.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the interior of the 767s rattling which becomes more noticeable during turbulence? The CGK-SYD flight was one of the worst I have ever experienced and the flight path almost took us down to ADL before heading across over Broken Hill and Dubbo on the way to Sydney. Not sure if it would have been any different in an A330 or B747 other than being quicker.
