Best seat in Y for A330-300?

I'm 5 foot and a half, and when full stretching my legs in 23B/J, I would still have to stick them out into the aisle past the bulkhead. Only midgets should apply for 23A/K.
Which is why I could not understand the earlier posts of people 6' foot plus sitting in the AK seats.

I agree! I had an awesome overnight flight in 23b. the emergency door hogs up alot of legroom if you were in 23a.

just a note..23A/B/J/K at doors2 with no bulkhead are only on the A330-200 DOMESTIC config

Resurrecting thread as I am booked to go to BKK and will be in whY. So should I go for 23J bulkhead or 39A in front of the crew rest... (in 23J at the moment)

23B or 23J on the A333 are OK but nothing like the bulkheads on the 747. I am not sure about 39A.

I am 5' 9" and take turns at stretching out my legs into the aisle past the bulkhead at the risk of the cart crashing into feet. If you are in 23A or 23K you will feel very cramped especially for a 8+ hour flight.

Personally if I chose an A333 and could not get 23BJ then I would more than likely pay the $80 to sit in exit row.

i'd go for 39A..the bulkheads at row 23A/B/J/K are just too close for comfort for me on the A333 :( (if you're over 5'5") ...you might be able to stretch your left leg past the bulkhead into the galley area..but doing both legs requires you to twist in your seat.. uncomfy! 39A gives you a comfy under seat stretch for both legs...the window/wall is handy to prop up your pillow against for some relax time (and the occassional sticky beak outside ;) ) ... and crew rest is really only utilized 'between main meal services' (around 3hrs on a full BKK flight) ...your recline wont 'affect' other pax :D ... and a short hop to the loos (yet far enough from the noise of them!! ;) ) ... the only downside is pax in front reclining between meal services..but for me, that's a minor issue..in my view the positives outweigh the negative :D

At the moment seat map is pretty open but sitting next to the curtain is another thing I am conscious about and got my foot run into once by a cart

Moved to 39A now but put in for an upgrade on the return leg to hopefully get some more sleep :) will inspect the other seats on QF81 next month

23B or 23J for me. I agree on the legroom, it is slightly more restrictive, but the lack of recline into me is the clincher.

Just did that leg and was in 23J. It was ok, but no Exit row. I'm thinking of maybe doing the Exit row next time - but it will be decided when I book. On the bright side - no recliners in front of you, more leg room for me (5'6") but the guy next to me was probably 6' and didn't seem to have a whole lot (although he did slide right down with he's knees touching the bulkhead wall when he slept:confused: - didn't look at all comfortable, but to each their own.) The Exit row near the toilets obviously have loads of room, but you then have queues for that. Guess it's a toss up which way you go. :)

(The only beef I had was getting my left leg knocked rather often every time the crew headed in and out of the galley - and I didn't have it sticking out in any way.)

Yeah I'm 6 foot so I'm thinking it is a long flight not being able to stretch... Also it is going to be the earlier departure time of 9:40 it will be a bit early to over indulge on the champers to numb the pain...

Another, perhaps minor, consideration is the ease with which crew can "look after" WP's who are seated in 23A/B/J/K. I have had some very positive experiences in 23B and J on my jaunts to PVG. (Of course I have little to compare to other than a less than pleasing experience in 25D.)

Had a very unpleasant experience in 2J on the A330 on the way from BKK last month...

ok lets try it this way 23J to BKK as a day flight, 39A back to SYD to sleep but with an upgrade request to J

Avoiding potential chronic seat recliners is always my first priority when choosing seats on a flight.

I find it's not just the chance of the cart hitting you when stretching feet into the aisle and galley, because the carts are generally only manoeuvred at specific times. Rather, it's the constant flinging of the curtain to and fro as staff/pax move about the cabin(s). I find it very difficult to sleep on aircraft at the best of times (fully flat J or F helps...) but am almost guaranteed not to get any sleep when the curtain is constantly moving on my legs. I'm having flashbacks of the horrors of JQ Y...

Still I choose exit row or bulkhead every time I can.

I am travelling to Hong Kong on QF with my sister and dad and was wondering what the middle seats at the back of the aircraft where the row turns from 4 seats to 3 are like? Rows 56 to 60.

the first row of 3 (56DEF) would be my 1st choice..the extra 'space' next to 56F ....the space under 55G .. (see seatmap on QF.COM) can be handy to stow some of your 'stuff' inflight in a convenient easy to access area! :) .. i would avoid the last row (60DEF) as too close to the noise of the toilet (the toilet flush IS loud if the toilet seat lid is NOT put down) .. AND some galley noise can be heard as well (depending on the crew!! )

Just choosing a seat on JQ3 20 May SYD-HNL Y. If I pick a seat in the row of 4 at the rear, what's the chance of getting to keep all of them? Any tips of otherwise getting sorta horizontal in Y? Thanks

how long's a piece of string?? ..what's the pax load? what seats do other pax choose? are there tour groups on your flight? these can influence what happens.. GENERALLY tour groups are seated as far back as possible..ALSO if flight lightly booked, the rear Y cabin CAN be more empty than the Y forward cabin..so if you see a spare row somewhere on boarding, ASK the cabin crew nicely to HOLD the row for you..to move into AFTER takeoff..(as an ex f/a QF, ive done this for PAX on flights..if its done correctly!!.ie me telling the other crew in the cabin what i'm doing..to stop any confusion!!) and of course if there arent many 'spare' seats ..just hope at least 1 is next to you!!!!GOOD LUCK!! :D

At 6'2" / 188cm (ie not THAT tall), bulkheads are absolute torture for me on long haul. Found that out when Qantas used to fly MEL-SIN-FRA-CDG. It's really surprising how painful it is not being able to straighten your legs fully. Many checkin agents don't seem to know that and think they're doing me a favour suggesting a bulkhead when I ask if there's anything with some more leg room (ie an exit row).

So as bad as Qantas seat pitch is in Y, I prefer a regular seat to a bulkhead. There are some configs where the aisle seat bulkhead does not extend all the way across in front of the seat, meaning that one's legs can extend past the bulkhead. But you have to have sighted the seat to be sure. The way the bulkhead is drawn on the seat maps is not always accurate.

BTW, I used to get given exit rows on 9 out of 10 Qantas flights. Now they want almost $400 extra on return to Europe for the 'privilege'. Yet another reason why I'm jumping ship.
