Hi,

Are there any sort of global solutions for SIM cards ?

I am travelling to a few places over April and May starting with Hong Kong (3 nights) then New York (7 nights) then Istanbul (5 nights) then back to the US for around two weeks before stopping by in Fiji (3 nights) on the way home.

Or perhaps better to just rely on Wifi for whatsapp/email would be easier ?
Probably just need a SIM for the US then ?

I don't often travel to multiple countries on the same trip so keen to get some advice/suggestions.

Thanks

Hi Nizar
Im looking for a sim also, uk/us/eu/jpn. so far ive found gosim .
im really after just data only

Go to a Post Office and check out Travel Sim. Mrs B and I have one each and are quite happy with the product especially since downloading the smartphone app to complement it. Even works from (not all) ships.

Get a Three UK prepaid sim from Simcorner.com. It comes with 25GB roaming limit you can use in HK and USA. For Istanbul you might need to get a separate euro pass or something.

I'm researching the same thing. Simcorner get very good reviews. They offer AT&T and T mobile. Apparently T mobile is only good in the big cities.
I'm looking for something that will work in the USA and then all around the Caribbean and Mexico. I haven't found the answer yet but am still looking

Thanks Buzzard,
That is helpful, I will look into it.
I don't suppose you know if it works on Royal Caribbean ships?

im in similar situation - looking for global sim to cover 5 countries on 4 continents.... not easy!

i started exercise of trying to compare sims, and it is just too difficult. And this is only comparing data charges. I will be doing most of calls/messaging via skype or whatsapp. If you try and look at call charges even more difficult. ie flat fee cost to make a call, currency you are billed in, cant recharge with foreign card, expiry of credit quoting data in 100kb, etc etc etc

From chart below, covermore global is coming up good in the numbers game...but a quick google comes up with heaps of negative press from users on the ground.

So looks like i will be relying on wifi, and reverting to picking up local sims if and when i need one

My sister works in the superyacht industry, travels very frequently to dozens of countries, and she mentions using a GYM SIM.
Generally these global type sims offer great convenience, but at a cost.

Same with purchasing a sim in country 'A', and then having to roam on it in countries 'B' thru 'X', if that makes sense.

In many countries, for certain visits, a local sim card is usually a cheaper option both to purchase and use.

Dual sim mobiles have made my life far easier.
My primary country sim travels with me, and I can receive calls if needed - but mainly to receive OTP by sms for banking & credit card bookings.
The second slot gets the local country sim on arrival, with an appropriate cheap data/sms/voice package for the length of visit.

Just my two cents worth, YMMV
