Best Star Alliance lounges in...

Flew TG J HKG-xBKK-MEL over night. Upon landing in BKK, we headed to the nearest Royal Silk Lounge closet to our departing gate (5) on concourse C. Very difficult to find 3 seats together, with single pax depositing their bags over several chairs. After finally managing to get seated, I headed over to the bar area only to find that there was no wine - NO WINE! Red or white! I asked the lounge lady and she confirmed no wine. Ok, I can compromise. I opened the fridge to grab a beer and they're all luke warm, as are all the other cans. Bugger that - so I trotted off to the other lounge directly opposite on concourse C. No wine in there either. I was told that the only Royal Silk Lounge serving wine, is the one on concourse D. Very full in concourse D lounge, but managed to get seats and wine :)

Yes. I'm lifetime Star Gold and visit BKK regularly. The TG lounges are really not very nice, so I usually visit the Louis Tavern 1st class lounges. Much better range of alcohol, and the food isn't too bad...

Quick comment from recent trips to Europe, several sectors with *A carriers:

Agree with all of the positive comments about the TK lounge in IST. Also it is now much less crowded since they opened the second level (I think about mid-2014).

I also had a chance to sample newly upgraded LH Senator lounges in FRA and LHR last month, and they were excellent. Nicely renovated and kitted, peaceful, and not too crowded.

I liked the SK SIN lounge, but you have to be flying J (or higher) to access it.
The SIN KF Gold lounge is quite 'meh'. Beer and wine but limited food, and no showers or toilets.
The MUC LH Senator lounge was very nice. Good range of food and drink.
The FCO *A lounge I visited was very small and limited food/bev.
IST TK lounge is still the pick of the bunch. Between QFi J and F lounges in quality/range.

Senator Lounge at FRA, near gate Z50 gets my vote for one of the best. Large, light, plenty of facilities.

The one at MUC pretty good too.

Swiss Air at Zurich naturally pretty swish. Maybe best coffee anywhere ?

I have to say that I find *A lounges to generally be fairly ordinary. I do like the TK lounge in IST (it has a lot of character) and the LHR lounges, who do very nice bacon baps for breakfast. I agree that the TG lounges in BKK are horrible and that the Louis Tavern 1st class lounges are much nicer (don't forget this is the new BKK we're talking about).

There's a SAS lounge at Changi? Haven't seen that before?

SQ F lounge in HKG is nice (similar to the one in SYD). A good alternative to the ordinary TG F lounge.
