Best travel apps

while Ive never discovered anything in Se Asia I have had some surprises in India, East Africa and the Middle east.

Some other thread a few years ago (not even sure if it was on AFF) was recommending Wanderlog. I downloaded it and have been using it ever since.
Very simple to maintain & great for keeping track of all kinds of bookings, has a daily itinerary (they probs all do that?_) keeps track of expenditure etc.
I just use the freebie version but there's a Pro version that allows a few extras such as importing attachments. That'd be handy if you want to attach PDFs of various documentation or other stuff. Can't recall what other benefits the paid version has but I find the free version is quite sufficient as a one-stop for keeping trip information.

If you scan the hotel wifi and start seeing things like “Bill’s Laptop”, it’s highly likely that Bill can see your devices. So not the most secure network config.

Other more nefarious things could be lurking there also. Always wise to use a VPN.

What are you looking for out of interest?
Suspect it's doing an NMAP scan of the local network. Other than for interest value, I can't see how this is making anything safer.

Not really, sorry. Just because Bill's laptop is advertising a service (eg, samba) doesn't mean you are or vice-versa. A VPN is not going to make your endpoint any safer on the network either. All a VPN is doing is adding another layer of encryption between your device and your VPN server. This does not stop someone else on the network attacking your device, especially if you have an unpatched vulnerability running on it and have that service running. A VPN doesn't prevent east-west traffic on a network.
