Best way to book an American Airlines (ex US) flight

I paid award taxes with an Aussie credit card this week via the US AA Gold desk with no issue. Just put a zero in front of my post code. She did mutter 'oh dear' when I confirmed it was a foreign card, but put it through anyway. Not sure if it makes any difference but was an AMEX card.

Thanks serfty I found it.
Just tried to book, it went through but no email yet. Crosses Fingers.
I could only put the segundo in when I said I was in the US.

Wondering if the booking held up for you? If EL SEGUNDO is still working, and did you do it on-line? I'm looking at making an award booking on-line when availability comes along.

I've been able to pay for flights on aa.com without any problems and just putting an 0 before my postcode. This is using my own address. Not booked any Aawards yet but will be doing so in a couple of months.

I said I was in the US with my Australian Address and the Sequndo trick. Worked fine.

Just tried booking an easy multicity itinerary on aa.com . Went through the stages nicely, ooo good price, locked in some prime seats

Get to the billing page, tried it with Australia as the country, with El segundo etc but always getting the "unrecognised credit card" message. About 4 goes later I think I've done it right but get an error code message err0019 or something. Hit the hold itinerary button, storm off in a huff to read this thread again. Come back to purchase and the page has expired, I've lost the record locator (which is helpfully NOT on the emailed itinerary) so even if I was to try and book again I won't get the same seats. Gahhh

The lesson here is, join AAdvantage.

Arrrrrggghhhhhh. Oo, we've won a gold medal.

You have to put USA as the country, your correct billing address in AU with the US city and postal code added

Thanks.

I'm fairly sure I've got that part right, beginning to think it's a problem with my credit card. I tried again with the return legs but same issue. Been booking things around the world today maybe the built in security thing has kicked in. Also a recent ANA transaction has gone awol.

Wonder if I should try paying by paypal instead. Will sleep on it.

Nuts, still not working despite joining AAdvantage, trying the "australian" method with extra zero and the segundo method. Likely a problem at my end, I'm using an oz issued debit mastercard fwiw, though never had a problem elsewhere.

A pity, now I've got two days of nothing to do in the lotfap. Would using a friends card (and reimbursing them :) ) make things too complex?

Maybe not meant to be, knowing my luck there'd be a hurricane in our favourite dependency!

The debit card may indeed be the problem.

Using a friend's card should not make things too complex (as long as your friend knew about it :p). I have been across such several times with no issues.

Last week I managed to ticket 2 'held' bookings using an AU billing address with nothing in the zip code box* and using an AU card.

* post code, state and suburb were all in the address box.

It seems to have worked... touch wood

Well I have just booked my next Aaward and paid for it on aa.com.
Just to be sure I first tried paying using my correct Australian billing address for my Amex-not accepted. So I made just 1 change-postcode from 4551 to 04551 and it was accepted and tickets accepted.I had Australia as my country of residence. So really no need to use El segundo.

By the way 2 F awards NRT-BOS.Total 125000 points,$US104.40 taxes.

It simply the area nearby LAX (a but like Tullamarine in nearby MEL) - with a known zip code.

Successful again using my Aussie Amex.Booked 2 F Aawards DFW-NRT.Total cost 125000 miles and the massive taxes totally $US5 for the 2 tickets.

I tried to book a return flight from Miami to Carribean using the el segundo method with my mastercard however I got this email response.

American Airlines eTravel Document Service was unable to process your flight reservation request. To ensure that your travel plans are uninterrupted, please contact American Airlines at 1-800-955-4826 or please visitwww.aa.com. Refer to the above record locator when speaking to a representative.

Does this mean it got rejected, can someone please recommend a way to get it to work. When I log into the booking it says "Purchased" but not ticketed or anything... Do I need to call AA?
