Howdy all,

My partner, myself and my daughter (18 years old) are travelling to Europe at the end of the year. (We are all Velocity Red at the moment) My partner was on gold for years (and how she misses it!). We are looking at flying either Singapore Airlines (most likely - based on price, including exit row seats) or Etihad. Another friend may be coming with us as well.
I do family pooling with my daughter where I get all her points.

Are there any good tips on how to maximise status credits/points for Velocity or Star Alliance? I notice there was an Aegean Airlines shortcut a few years ago to get Gold status superquick, but they have closed it now.

Thanks
Mike

My suggestion would be to pool your partner's account into yours as well (or vice versa, though given you're already pooling your daughter's into yours it getting your partner's into yours would be easier). I think the proviso is your have the same address so obviously this would need be the case.

Don't think it will be possible as daughter over 18

13.3 A maximum of two Members of the Family Pool may be 18 years or over in age. If the Beneficiary Account belongs to a Member aged 18 years or over, they can have a maximum of one Contributing Account belonging to a Member aged 18 years or over.

Depending on how well versed you are to the FF game, these tips may seem obvious.. Booking full fare or flexi economy for you and the account that is pooling to you will double the SCs over a saver economy. So SYD-AUH-LHR will net 560SC's for 2 people return. Also consider going via another domestic airport. Sometimes the cost of the flights is no more expensive to go SYD-MEL-AUH-LHR than it is to go SYD-AUH-LHR.

Basically, have a look at the booking classes and SC's first as you may find a small price difference or extra leg on a trip can be the difference between upgrading to gold and missing out.

If you're trying to earn status with Star Alliance there are options on flights within Europe.
Unfortunately no intra-european airlines will earn status credits with VA.

It would take a lot of domestic flights to get enough VA SC to make it PS/SG.
One return trip from MEL to AKL in J, per person is 120 VA SC, 60 x 2. And thats only two thirds the requirement for VA PS.
I am assuming the OP wants a way to get easily PS/SG before the trip, not during the trip.
You can't buy status as such, you need to make many VA flights/flights with partners to get PS/SG.
I am with VA PS only because I flew many J flights Au to NZ, and a few quite long domestic J flights too.

Unless you're willing to purchase premium cabins which comes at a higher cost but provides greater SC & points earn it might be difficult.

You could also book a longer route than usual (status run) to gain more miles which increases the number of SC's you earn.

If your interest is gaining access to lounges, you could possibly buy a priority pass. You may also be eligible to access the Amex lounge in SYD too.
