I have a couple of consulting jobs coming up in the Western Caribbean. Are there any shorter routes from Australia than via LAX and Miami (eg through South America)? Or should I stick to Qantas/AA, transit through the US, and put up with the TSA's little quirks?

Any advice gratefully received.

I cant offer and constructive advice on routeing but i do have to ask, what sort of job takes you to the Western Caribbean ? sounds interesting.

(the only different routing i could think would be via Santiago but i dount thats at all better than through the USA)

unfortunately via LAX and MIA are still your best options to get there.

I don't feel too sorry for you though!!:mrgreen:

You could go round the world and head there via Europe? So my guess is either hotl design, golf course design or tourism :)

Thanks to all - LAX and MIA it is then. May try to find a transit hotel around LAX as I don't fancy doing the whole trip in one go. Or might get a RTW ticket and catch up with friends in the UK (will probably cost about the same).

Unfortunately I'm strictly forbidden to talk about the nature of the contract! But having been to the area a few times before, can truthfully say that SE Queensland is just as pleasant.

I have done this trip a few times through LA & Miami and I prefer to break the journey in Miami because you tend to arrive in LA early morning, which for me is not a good time to sleep, but you would get to Miami in the early evening, perfect for going to bed and getting a normal night's sleep.

You are right that it is a killer to fly all the way through in one go. I did it once - never never again. I almost needed physio treatment when I arrived.

Of course YMMV.

In answer to your original question though I think the best way to get there would be by private jet :D
