Best way to redeem QFF Points - I want out?

I, years ago, on an instant, decided to quit every one of the several mileage deals I then belonged to. Three of them as a "millionaire." Gave all the cards to my sons who for a time did such a heap of First Class and Five Star whizzing about they could have been mistaken for consulate clerks and/or Commonwealth coppers. Being free from the enslavement means I have to pay a bit more to continue to ride in the pointy bit and I've had a few rides in Scoot and Air AsiaX and Jetstar and Strategic and in the olden-days Virgin "business classes." But all in all I love that I'm FREE -- and especially the anonymity! If your offspring are old enough they will LOVE that you thought of them first.

For me; a OW 280k award or a return F MEL/SYD-LAX gotta be up there towards best value redemptions for that sort of points balance. Both are "worth" about $10-15k.

But as a practical and perhaps more usable solution given the OP is a family man, I really liked the SYD-NAN J suggestion.

I would keep the account active, perhaps by using an EDR card.
Surely the day will come when you will want to take the family for a holiday somewhere even if just interstate. The points could then be used for some Classic Awards.
But each to their own.....

The taxes and surcharges depend on how many sectors you do and where you depart from. Places like LHR have very high airport departure tax.

I would budget for something ~$1600-$2000.

Re: Best way to redeem QFF Points - I want out? > Sell the points!?

I know some people buy and sell their points.

There are a some websites that specialise in that, and if you look on the web, you can easily find more information on it.

While I agree with some of the others, that you could hang on to them, recently I have found using point with Qantas is hard and using QA points for Jetstar, which is supposedly possible, is a complete pain.

This thread has some crazy ideas in it, but I love that many people see no value in redeeming for J or F awards.

Thanks for leaving the awards seats for the rest of us! :)
