My calculations are probably not the best but I think transferring to one of the AMEX MR rewards partners is probably a better burn rate, i.e. VS,MH,SQ,CX. And also I find it very hard to get award seats on QF international.

What status level are you with QF? I ring up and request the seats I need. Not a problem. I am WP with short membership number and many status points however, I think the WP bit helps and I suspect the other but don't know for sure

Hi,

I don't have status with QF. Only bronze... I don't fly enough to get status :(

Thanks JohnK. I am someone mainly travelling on points.

Admittedly I tend to plan my trips 8+ months in advance. I generally don't have problems booking seats.

I did notice last year that September JASAs SYD - LAX seemed to get to ridiculous pricing by mid November.

I've justed booked a JASA SYD- BKK for April 2013 and most days had them at 93000 points - ended up paying 60K points + $340 which seemed pretty reasonable to me.

As some have noted, possible better deals coul be gained when US Airwasy have 100% promo on points purchases. Could get J or F to Asia return for < $2000

The only issue with the US airways offer is the availability of more than 1 J award on SQ. On TG not an issue but I prefer the J seats on SQ to TG :)

From someone who feels privileged to get Y+ or the odd Air Asia X premium seat, I'm sure my body would be happy with nearly an J product
