Oh there are plenty that fit these categories, but perhaps I should single out a couple of places.

Best: Gold Coast - Yes, strangely enough the local kebab caterers do make great kebabs. There is one place near the mall that really has the kebab touch. PERFECTION!

Worst: London, Getting punched in the face because a guy high on drugs is being kicked out and you looked at him the wrong way...

Why did you look at him the wrong way? Didn't you know better?

What a fascinating topic Mal

Best: Stalactites, Lonsdale Street in Melbourne...open 24 hours...delicious (though it is Souvlaki)

Worst: A place called Mr Funny Kebab also in Melbourne. One of those kiosk type things. Plenty of funny business going on at not only the kiosk, but the kebab itself

"Wrong way " is as subjective as "best kebab place".

On the positive side, his drugged up state meant he could barely contact, and I was ready to return if appropriate (wasn't wanting the police hassle though).

I have generally found purveyors of fine foods such as kebabs don't rate too high on my culinary expectations, however it is easy to define the best and the worst for me...

Best. Any kebab I have eaten at 2am and actually remember eating...
Worst. Any kebab eaten at 2am and I dont remember eating till the next day to find yogurt garlic sauce and bits of mystery meat down the front of my jacket.

Actually, now thinking about it, possibly I have best and worst mixed up :)

I'm more a purveyor of the early morning hotdog myself. This seems to be more of a Queensland thing.

However, There was a guy a Uni who billed a kebab shop in Elizabeth St Brisbane, near Govinda's IIRC, as producing the best kebab ever! Did see it myself, but c'est la vie.

La vie.

I'm with you Mella2007, Stalactites is wonderful.. As for the worst, I can't really say I've found a bad one yet that i can remember!

Stalactites immediately came to mind (from my Tertiary student days in the 70's :mrgreen: ) ... both for Best and worst!:-|

(... although I also used to like the "Electro Dog House" at South Yarra.)

Best would have to be a kebab shop on High road, North Finchley, London, UK. They made the tastiest shish kebabs I have ever had.

Worst would have to be at a stall in the Xi'an, China. It was described as an arab burger, which I guess is roughly correct. The meat just tasted weird, not sure what animal it was from.

I treat all kebabs with suspicion.

I can't believe that a nondescript "meat" being kept warm for hours and open to the atmosphere can be entirely good for you

For all you know, the weird-tasting meat actually was an Arab, and the name was more accurate than you gave it credit for :mrgreen:

Best (in no particular order)
Stalactites, Lonsdale Street in Melbourne
Uncle Joes Kebabs 995 Sydney Road Coburg North VIC
Haci's Kebabs, Bell St, Preston, VIC
Kebab Box, Sydney Road/Hume Hwy Campbellfield (opposite Campbellfield Kmart) (Spotless & Clean) $7.50 Bargain!!!!!
Mad Kebabs, Manningham Road Doncaster
Melbourne Kebab Station in Coburg
Thomastown Kebab House, Lalor (a proper sit-down area if required) Only open til about 7pm :(

Worst
Lambs - Used to be great now it's just disgusting :(
Oh and any Kebab that makes you visit the toilet repeatedly hours later

I reckon if you remember eating it at 2am then it's either for really good or really bad reasons.

There is a place on Hindley St here in Adelaide that tends to dish up tasty kebabs but was always second best while the Balfours pie cart was in operation. It's now elevated itself since the unfortunate demise of the pie floaters waiting outside the casino. I have never eaten one sober so real quality cannot be assured.

There used to be a dodgey caravan at the bottom of Macquarie Pass in Shellharbour that sold cracking kebabs. No idea how they passed any hygiene related inspections but I never tried anything other than their kebabs they were do good.

And I *heart* my kebabs. I have had probably eaten them in the low 100's in my life and have always had a good experience for its price and convenience factors :) :)

I cannot recall the last kebab I ate ( and I could count them on one hand) but this sign on a local kebab van has always taken my fancy (sadly, I think it has been recently 're-amended'). With a decent nod to Kentucky distilling.

I had forgotten all about that place! Nice dogs, going back quite awhile now!
