'Bi-polar' threat man shot dead

While I agree that the air marshalls seemed to have a reasonably good motivation to stop this man, you'd hope that they would disable him rather than kill him.

Kindly explain how you would disable such a person under those conditions.

I accept the explanations of NM, Mal and shillard - they brought up reasoning that I hadn't explored but now are much clearer and understand. Whilst I've used guns, they were either out on properties or at school in the small bore rifle club - both were very long time ago.

I'm no law enforcement officer, have never owned a gun and nor do I want to. I'd like to be kept safe on airplanes as much as the next person. But I don't think asking if there was perhaps a better way to deal with this means that I am some kind of cowboy nor a pinko sympathiser/whinger. From your comments, I know whose head the cowboy hat would fit better. :mrgreen:

somewhat disturbing. The guy had a disability. I have a friend whose child is bi-polar and my wife works in the field of disabilities, so I have had some contact and am aware that these people are still human and deserving of more respect than your description allows.

And you might be very surprised to find out what my qualifications are when it comes to dealing with mental defectives - and even more surprised and "disturbed" upon learning how I think they should be dealt with - for the good of all concerned.
