Do Qantas have bidding for upgrades?
i've actually never flown with Qantas before and have a few trips to the USA next year.

I don't have points to upgrade, but I also bought a special discounted economy fare so not even sure if an upgrade is available even if they do have bids.

Yes they do. I'm assuming your special discounted economy fare is a Sale Fare.
Sale Fares are not normally eligible for Bid Now Upgrades.

I have seen QF offer bid upgrades o n sale fares (the restriction only applies to points upgrades).

The thing is that even if an invitation is made to put in a bid (usually close to flight time and not for all flights or pax), there are zero guarantees as these bids are processed after all eligible points upgrade requests have been assessed, which often doesn't leave anything for lower status let alone bids.

Not impossible mind you, but I wouldn't rely on it in any way.

Goid luck!

QF web site. --> https://www.qantas.com/au/en/manage-booking/upgrade.html
The chances of getting an upgrade are very low. Will be others with QF status and higher ranked fare buckets/more expensive tickets ahead of you.
Consider paying $$$ for an exit row seat.
