Big development! Qantas seat selection!

I would sincerely hope that anyone below Platinum status is not able to select forward rows on 767s and 737s months out from the actual domestic flight.

This could potentially be another step backwards. I can just see that someone at QF is going to be making another mistake and allow selection of any seats on domestic flights to be a free for all....

JohnK,

No arguments with that as a QC/PS, my only concern is being penalised for pre-allocating such a poor seat selection (from limited options).

Will an NB be allocated a forward(er) seat T-24hrs if it's vacant? Only time will tell I guess.....

I believe the first 4-5 rows (B767) should be blocked for WP members, however blocking the first 14 rows is a bit of overkill IMO.

Cheers

I have a flight this week and "select seat" is showing rows 4 - 9 as completely unavailable.

I rang Qantas about it and was told 2 things -

1. "select seat" should actually be thought of as "request seat" because it is only a request that will not be confirmed until check-in.

2. anyone who already has a standard seating request in their profile does not need to use "select seat" because their request will have been logged automatically and using "select seat" will not give you access to a better seat.

I guess time will tell whether that information is correct.

DOM - and yes; www.checkmytrip.com confirms 4C.

(Maybe I and someone else were "Fighting" over the seat :p)

It still wont let me keep the seat even though it is available to select. Perhaps it is because I have only just paid and it takes a while for payment to process (although I have received the e-ticket/receipt)?

All good in theory. Being allocated 29F as a WP's forward window preference and then being able to select 4C (or 5A being furthest forward window)? Obviously still some bugs to iron out.

have just been able to get access to "select seat" for my next domestic booking on 12th june, booked 30 days ago. MEL - SYD

as qf gold (flexi-saver ticket) i get access to all seats that are not already marked for someone else, much like OLCI. However, I can now select exit row seats which is a good benefit for me.

Very interesting! It appears that ticket class/type now plays a role in determining seat availability. Another SG mentioned he was unable to access exit row/forward rows.

Cheers

Still get error message for flight booked this morning for travel Friday.

However, flight for next Thursday, booked Monday, WP travelling with QP/NB on same ticket. WP with FWD Window pref allocated 5E (??) when 5F available, and QP/NB not allocated seat. Was able to select 13D/F (exit aisle and window) for both pax, without any waiver/disclaimer/agreement that I am not a one legged blind man.

I'm a lowly PS and was able to select an exit row on SYD-MEL! Go figure!

I can't access the front rows (on a 767), but all the bokings I have are 'O' class, which are among the lowliest of the low when it comes to classes :)

For people on low yield fares I would agree, but can also see that high yield fares should allow some forward access (say Y, B, K fares)

I don't fly much but what's so good about an exit row seat? I have a phobia with exit rows and imagine if the door pops out in-flight, I'd be the 1st sucker sucked out  ;) But give me bulkhead seats anytime thanks!

I'm PS and can only select seats in the rear half of the aircraft and definately no exit rows. I checked one of my bookings where I already had a window seat preference selected through QP membership and assumed that my seat has already been allocated to one of the forward half in the locked seats section as it does not already show a seat selection icon but does allow me to select if I want. I have another flight on the same Townsville - Brisbane route later in the year which already displays a moveable seat selector that is allocated a window seat in 17A, the first of the unlocked rows and again out of wing seat area. It would therefore appear from what I have seen, PS is not offering me any real gains in seat selection as there are no offers in a forward or wing seat and I continue to maintain a window seat somewhere in the aircraft.

On another point, I made a BNE-LAX booking for December for two under two separate bookings. I called the customer service number to try and get the seats to be together which was no problem and thought I would give it a shot in allocating window seats. As expected, I was told that I could not be allocated these seats until the day however I was placed in seats 47K,J and told that these were bulkhead seats that provide a bit more room. I wanted to confirm the location of these seats and checked some configuration plans and would see row 46 either as locked seats, toilets or exists. Therefore I am still not sure if 46 turns out to be locked seats, that may be the actual bulkhead row and not 47 as I was told. Does anyone know about this?

How long is it until you fly?

Are you on a red-e?

Red E ($1500 return to LHR) flying in November.

Strange thing is that I booked
MEL-SYD
SYD-SIN QF31
SIN-LHR QF31

LHR-SIN QF32
SIN-SYD QF32
SYD-MEL

I rang to check a flight that had changed the other day and was told that I shouldn't have been able to book that. It should have booked SYD-LHR as one booking. I booked it that way to get more SC (I hope so anyway). He said he'd seen it before and it didn't really matter.

Theoretically all these changes are silly and are likely to create more chaos than actually achieve anything positive other than to help people that book early.

How can you predict how many Platinums, Golds etc are going to be on any flight? You could find Platinums booking late, with whatever booking class, at the back of the cabin or in middle seats if people have already selected a seat.

I am totally confused and at a total loss trying to understand what Qantas is doing? There is nothing wrong with a computer allocating seats at T-25 hours and allowing people to OLCI from T-24 hours onwards. Now you are going to have people playing musical seats 6 months out from their flight and already we are seeing lowly status being able to select exit rows and some forward seats.

For what it is worth I tried selecting seats on some of my flights and I kept getting an error message. I guess this is to do with the fact that I have a forward aisle in my profile and I have a theoretical seat already allocated.

Totally confusing and totally stressing me out thinking about it....

Ok for my AAward flight SYD-LHR-SIN-SYD I have been able to allocate online our QF flights.

More interestingly for my SIN-SYD flight the seat map looks like this:

1 - x -- x
2 - x xx x
3 - x xx x
4 - x xx x

Does that mean this is 3 class sold as two and these will be F seats? I have chosen 3EF at the moment but once babygr is allocated to the booking I will probably have to move to 4A and 4E.
