Big QF sale starting 25/08?

Yes, it was the (not)news that JQ were now going to operate SYD-MEL and shake up the industry ! Just after it was an interview with NZ's PM about this afternoons announcment of relaxation of international requirements for trans-tasman flights.

I think Qantas has been shaken up by Tiger appearing on the route. JQ announcing it shortly after was not unexpected.

Did anyone see the big anouncement:?:
I've just read in The Oz in the front news section, but really part of the QF profit reporting (Sorry I can't find a link on their website); That Jetstar will be allowed to lease 4 more A330s and that due to the variations in the newer models they can take a bigger load. Hence Southern Europe distinations are back on the drawing board using A330s instead of 787s.

Couple of slight inconsistencies in the story, jetstar is leasing the aircraft now-ish, but southern europe is on a 2 year timeframe and they are still looking for an Asian hub.

who knows.....

4 sleeps to go :p

This could be anything

A380 arrival combined with some sort of sale

If it's going to be on Sunrise it's a pretty safe bet it's not a 2for1 J class sale.

I am VERY much hoping for a 2 for 1 sale in J for travel next year..

VA have no idea what they are doing and I cannot book them as I don't trust them for actually running the flights as advertised.

2 for 1 please in J

Wasn't that just the Jetstar MEL-SYD announcement yesterday that Sunrise were hyping up?

Two sleeps to go

The 4th A380 finally arrives on the 26th so possibly a sale to promote that, and try to drown out the VA "relaunch" of MEL-LAX.

It won't be anything do to with JQ as the rumour was the QF staff were asked to work overtime, is that right ??

see post #18 ;)

Thought I had read it somewhere before ;)

2 for 1 J sale for MEL-LAX for 2010 please, that's all I want....

Every other airline has fares in J for around $6,000 return to the USA at the moment, but for various reasons I'd rather stick with QF and the A380

That is correct. QF telephone staff have been offered unlimited overtime on Tuesday.

Coming from a mining background, the first thing that pops into my head there is possible OH&S issues on 'unlimited' overtime:!:

Today Qantas had a media release in their media room section of their website about taking receipt of the new A380... which will mean more routes to London and LA... Oh please sale gods let it be something related to that :-) I have my fingers crossed and will await till tomorrow morning to see if anything comes of these rumors!

unlimited overtime doesn't mean that you don't get the statutory breaks, or that you can work more that the maximum allowed per day.

So it's limited unlimited.
Why confused?
What the company is prepared to spend on overtime is "unlimited", i.e. all workers can get overtime if their want it. But the hours worked is "limited" for an individual by the usually legal requirements. :-|

Unless you are seriously suggesting that Qantas is planning to break OHSW laws?
