I thought my memory was correct...

Cashrewards offered 10% off Big W egiftcards in Dec 2015. So the current 8% while pretty good is not the biggest discount ever.

I was shooed away from doing it by a self-checkout supervisor: "We're not allowed to do these at the self checkouts anymore, gift cards don't work here"

n.b. I had not specified payment method

Not that I'm aware of. 8% off through Cashrewards finished at the end of June.
