Biggest juxtaposition between luxury (from points) and budget (from money)?

How did you make it out alive without getting pissed or shat on? Enlighten me oh venerable teacher!
To be honest, I don't think it's anywhere as dangerous as people say. Yes, you will get mugged if you walk around flashing gold chain; but if you walk at a reasonable speed, walk like you know what you are doing, belongings hidden, then I don't think there is a problem. I never felt unsafe while I was there, well, except this one time at 11 PM when I took a streetcar back to hotel, and there was a guy onboard who was quite agitated and was on his own (he clearly was on the verge of suffering from a mental health episode), and I just kept an eye on the situation. Which is why, I went cheap, no taxi, just $5 public transport day pass every day and every night.

Maybe we Australians are at a bit of an advantage when it comes to using public transport overseas:

Public transport in Australia is generally so bad, that using it overseas is almost always going to be a pleasant surprise!

I hardly use my car now in SYD. PT everywhere unless I’m going to Bunnings or the like. I fill up the tank once every 3 mths or longer 😳. Rarely get an Uber/Taxi other than to/from the airport (with luggage).

…and I don’t have a Gold Opal card - yet! ($2.70 all day travel…😂).

It may be poorly organised and maintained in Australia (looking at you, Transport for NSW with the train line infra falling apart, and QLD is not always much better, either) but the pax onboard are usually OK.

I've been scooting around the Sydney train network at all times of the week and it's been all good so far. Some people may be noisy or otherwise annoying but I've never been even close to any sort of physical threat. Though, I do watch people and their behaviour and move away on the platform or onboard from those who seem go further than my comfort zone. The same in Brisbane, equally.
