Just saw the bigpond add yesterday again and noticed that the song lyrics are "..is off to LA on Monday night..." - the woman in the clip is looking at the Qantas website but as far as I know no Qantas flights to LA on Monday nights...maybe these words just suited the song better......;)

Huh?

Seatcounter says (on Mondays):

SYD-LAX QF107, QF11
MEL-LAX QF93
BNE-LAX QF15
AKL-LAX QF25

Granted these all leaving during the day...

So maybe they're flying from SYD on a QANTAS codeshare (on Jetstar metal) via HNL?
Or maybe they're based in PER and connecting in BNE?

Was more aimed at a flight to LA in the evening......not a big deal....why would you get bigpond as your internet provider anyway.....

hahaha or maybe its just a song!

actually that add is pretty old, i do remember thinking myself when i saw it, that there are no LAX bound flights leaving at night time - with any carrier as far as i can tell let alone qantas.

I might ring up Qantas and say that I want to book the flight that leaves Monday night!

Ahh, none are scheduled, but on days when Sydney is blanketed in dust storms then maybe the do actually leave at night

Reminds me of the ad campaign a couple of months back when Woolworths joined the QFF program. The voiceover said something like 'so now you're trip to the Gold Coast just got a whole lot closer'. You'd think that in promoting Qantas they could at least refer to a route Qantas flies!

Because telstra hardware technology blocks you from getting a service from another ISP. (however, I have taken the option of telstra wholesale from another ISP, not wuite as bad).

I have bigpond dial up at $25per year to keep my email address.

I have telstra mobile because I travel remotely and they have the most coverage in those areas.

There are now many secondary providers with ADSL2+ with a better and cheaper service than Telstra. It works for me in country Victoria and all it takes is a few days for them to get Telstra to open the line up.

To overcome this our whole family moved to emails via a domain name so that we now all have our own personalised emails no matter which ISP we use. Cost is approx $12.95 per year for the domain name and $12 per year for up to 10 email addresses. Have a look at Crazy Domains. You can get it cheaper however we have found these guys to always reliable.

The same issues where we live. So much so that my wife uses Floptus and I use Telstra to ensure that someone nearly always has coverage.

When did ADSL2+ become available on the Gold Coast??

Do you have any details on providers?

TPG covers Southport, Arundel, Surfers Paradise and Merrimac. They seem to have some of the cheapest rates around, and would be who I'd go with if ADSL2+ was available in my suburb. It isn't yet (though some of the smaller companies, as notzac noted are in my area).

TPG Coverage area

OntheNet - Personal Broadband TURBO

Unsure whether you're in their coverage area, however these guys have been around a while now. Last I heard, they're pretty good (if fairly small).

I looked at them, trouble is they're not particularly competitive. The quota's they give aren't as good as others and I download a lot, so I want value for money and not to be shaped.

Why would that matter? It's a Bigpond advertisement, not Qantas.

I was going to pick up on that, but it was so much easier to drag this thread off topic.

TPG are cheap for a reason; unfortunately while their coverage is excellent, their network and service often leave a lot to be desired. Great for downloading heaps tho :)

One of my retail clients has TPG running in their stores, and most of the stores average 90 day uptimes

That being said, they rely on me to support when there are issues, rather than TPG so that's probably why they experience exceptional service! :D

Can't be worse than Bigpond and Telstra ;)

If I get the plan I want, I expect to be hitting 40GB+ a month. Something impossible with my 12GB plan right now.

Maybe this thread needs to be split, because I now have a question on ADSL/2+, I need to get a second line in to use it, as our existing phone is through a PABX. Is it possible to get ADSL and not pay line rental, as the cheapest I can find is $20 a month to rent a line that's not being used for anything but data, which I'll be paying for anyway.

I reckon she has one of those Telstra mobile/broadband/home phone deals.

maybe it complements her direct sweep to QFF credit card.
