I am planning to spend a night near BKK airport in late Oct (arriving at 18.50 on QF23), the airport website only mentions the Novotel Suvarnabhumi hotel and my searches on booking sites have not turned up any other close hotels ( a few are ~5km away). Has anyone stayed at the Novotel or have other suggestions?
Edit: the Miracle Suvarnabhumi looks OK too
Budget is up to $150.

There are numerous hotels nearby - with shuttles/cars - but many are pretty basic (and the price reflects that!).. so it depends on your requirements...

I think there is a big thread on this on FT....

Personally, I'd head into town, but if you want to be near the airport then the Novotel's a no-brainer.
The Miracle is out near Don Muang.

I've stayed at the Novotel twice and you just can't beat it for convenience. Last time we arrived at 7AM after flying from NY and left the next morning for Perth. Its a 24 hour hotel so no worries. Both times shuttle arrived at the well sign posted waiting place within 5 minutes. We even had breakfast twice ;-) Its nice and quiet too.

yep, Novotel - 5 minute walk from terminal and exec rooms are very adequate.

I would go into town if your following flight is later in the day

Everytime I have looked the Novotel has been ~5,000 baht up where as there are any number of (budget and surprisingly OK) hotels in Lad Krabang ~15 minutes from airport for ~20% of that price including return shuttle service and breakfast.

Convenient Resort is one that I will definitely stay at again although I may try and see stay at some of the others in the area.

I can't fault the Novotel, but I now get a cab into Sukhumvit Rd, hotels are plentiful as a places to eat and drink. If I was arriving late and leaving early, then Novotel works fine. Food there is good too as I recall.
