Look at the 'Oceania' column, then down alongside the various regions. Also, do the same for the Oceania row.

The points value for return booking are listed: Y is economy, C is Business and F is First. For a one-way booking, halve the amount.

e.g. Oceania to North America in Y is 100000 return, so 50000 one way. Oceania to Oceania is 42000 in business return.

That's right; either way for departure point / arrival point. So to go from anywhere in Oceania region to anywhere in the Far East region will take 80K, 110K, 150K points for Economy, Business, First.

I just noticed the chart is for return trips; one way is half the stated number.

The countries in each region are noted here.

That would be 'anywhere' serviced by a Star Alliance airline. So good value would be if you went from the furthest eastern point in the Oceania zone (for instance, Easter Island) to the furthest western point in the Far East zone, for instance, (western China). That's a lot of flying. EXCEPT in this example, you probably can't fly that route on Star Alliance, and the airline that services most of the pacific islands + NZ in their Oceania zone is Air NZ, and you can't get Award seats in ANZ .

Note that if you are looking at buying miles, there are other choices for buying Star Alliance miles - such as Life Miles, or United. There is a good Life Miles promo on at the moment, but you may need to already be a member to take advantage of it. Look at the Life Miles thread for that.

Do you think if I buy the 30,000 + 30,000 bonus promo on for the next 24 hours it's good value? Looks like it will cost about $1,140 AUD for 60,000 miles.

I just signed up and for me, 30K + 30K award miles cost is 750 euros, or US$855, or ~US$14 per thousand miles for A3.

I've updated here a calculation I recently did for the current Finnair miles sale.

For Finnair, its US$10 per thousand Vs ~US$30-33 per thousand for the other popular schemes.

With a quick look at:
HEL-SIN direct on AY, Finnair points = 55K, AA Saver miles = 35K, AS miles = 32.5K in economy, A3 miles = Europe - Far East, 80K in economy
HEL-LIS direct on AY, Finnair points = 19K, AA Saver miles = 12.5K, AS miles = 12.5K in economy; A3 miles = Europe - Europe, 30K in economy
SYD-HKG or SIN direct on QF, Finnair points = 150,000 #, AA Saver miles = 35K, AS miles = 22.5K in economy; A3 miles = Oceania - Far East, 80K in economy
DOH-LHR on QR, Finnair points = 110,000 #, AA Saver miles = 20K, AS miles = 22.5K in economy; A3 miles = Middle east- Europe, 40K in economy
LAX-JFK on AA, Finnair = 45K, AA Saver miles = 12.5K economy, AS miles = 12.5K in economy; A3 miles = Nth America - Nth America, 40K in economy

Conclusion. 'Value' is dependent on individual circumstances AND the particular route you are intending to (attempt to) redeem flights on. But it seems from the sample above, A3 charges a bit over double what the popular schemes charge and are selling their miles for a bit under half (ignoring Finnair for now).

For me, its line ball value and I wouldn't buy as I'm already cashed up on Star Alliance miles.

I bought and I got an email from [email protected] saying my account has been suspended until I provide a copy of my passport, utility bill, and credit card I used to make a purchase... not that I just created my account for this purchase and no history -- but I can't tell if this is genuine or it's a phishing... feels scam-my....
