Bit of a blast from the past landed in MEL tonight, 2hr delay from ADL. Was surprised to see a 747 popping its head over gate 9. My thought was is there Antarctic run/ charter tomorrow?

Vh-oeg came down as qf459 yesterday then did QF2902 Antarctica flight today.

Ok so she has just come back from today's outing. Nice to see the big birds at the dom terminal every now and again.

Others on the forum have stated they booked one of the legs specifically. My guess is if you are a frequent AFFer such flights are never by chance!

Hah! Did you book this on purpose or just a stroke of good luck?

I had to go to Sydney for work anyway. Usually I would get a slightly earlier flight, but I managed to make this service work so I could get the 747-400.

I believe there was a bit of an AFF party on the Saturday afternoon positioning sector to MEL. The crew who operated both positioning sectors didn't operate over the ice, so it was a very good roster for them. I heard that the people on the upper deck were cheeky, but well behaved.

There was a small gathering of those whom like to fly upstairs (don't know if it was official AFF or just AFF members). Unfortunately I missed out on it :(

I was on this flight on Sat upstairs, and there was a group, the FA told me I was was the well behaved one!(not that the others
where causing any trouble)

I gather these 747 Dom legs aren't widely publicised ?

Or are they ?

"Not publicised, and not not publicised" if you get my meaning.

Keep an eye on FF forums as people tend to jump on them. Or alternatively keep an eye on any charter activity. Regular fares apply, and often cheaper due to larger aircraft meaning more seats in lower buckets.

They're never publicised as there'd be a lot of disappointed people if they had to do an aircraft swap.

And like Mr Penegal says, they're an excellent opportunity to get cheap seats or take advantage of the often plentiful upgrade availability :)
