Hi all

Just looking at seat maps on ExpertFlyer for A330 on SYD to AKL and back again and it seems like there is a high amount of blocked seats or is this normal ?

Thanks

Normal if your status isn't high enough to select from the forward rows.

I think that has to do with them being bassinet positions. I'm a P1 and generally can't select Row 1 on A330s either.
Exactly - and it is a relatively recent "enhancement".

Fair enough - as a WP I generally haven't been able to select row 1 on 330/789 for some time.

"relatively recent" is a subjective term, I would be thinking of about 2 years ago.

FWIW, Here's a flight I am on in December.

E & F are not bassinet seats.

I know E & F are not bassinet seats but I also know A & K will now refuse selection even after T-80 with the message that they are bassinet seats and can only be reserved by calling Qantas. I don't know if E & F give the same message as I have never attempted to reserve them - I prefer window seats.
I can only speculate that E & F may be blocked for PAX travelling with the parent or carer in A & K respectively.
I do know I was able to reserve 1A on A330s up until about 2 years ago when I was a WP. Maybe 3 years ago. Time flies.

Any way, unallocated Row 1 seats generally open up at T-80 for me. I'll wait until December and report back. :)

I can let you know sooner - I'm flying on Friday and so T-80 will be tonight.
Those flights will restore my WP status.
Then in two weeks I will return with another transcon on an A330.
So we will be able to compare the situation for SG & WP!

Thanks
My last J international flights were almost fully blocked out at 4 weeks prior to flights, but it was SQ so they tend to have blocked seats booked well ahead of the actual flights.

Ok so as expected 1A and 1K did not open up at T-80 as SG.
Will report on the second half of the experiment after a status upgrade and a couple of weeks of south pacific sunshine!
